I think that home schooling is fine. As long as your happy and comfortable being homeschooled then it's cool |

I personally wouldnt want to be home schooled. In school is where you learn everything, not just education but about people and its where you develop alot of your social skills. If homeschool is for you, then go for it! |

School phobia is a recognised problem these days which is good. The thing that is not good about it being recognised is allowing people to givein to it by being schooled at home, whereas this allows the person to actually GET an education it does not teach them how to cope with life. The school where I teach runs a program to help school phobics get back into mainstream school, for some kids it involves them actually getting carried kicking and screaming into school for weeks on end.....but we have never failed a child yet and ALL have been able to reintegrate into the system and leave having beaten their phobias. School phobia is often only the beginning of a lifetime of problems if it is not dealt with while you are young. I know how it is from BOTH sides of the coin, not only am I a teacher but I was also a school phobic. |

homeschooling isn't necessarily bad and is getting more recognition these days, but the thing is....colleges look for people who are well-rounded-- into clubs, sports, leadership activities-- so if you want to get into a good college you have to find an alternative way of getting involved in activities. Join clubs in your community, do volunteer work, get involved in sports leagues. I work in a college admission's office, and I've seen homeschooled kids who still manage to put lots of activities on their application this way, and it makes them look as good as the public school kids, so I highly recommend it. Besides that, if you have a phobia, then you have to find a way to get social exposure to other people, and activities are the way to do this. You can't hide from it forever. Eventually you're going to need social skills to survive. Believe me, as a shy adult I understand how crucial (and not always easy) it is to be able to get along with people. |
