~Do you have an older siamese? Opinions wanted ~*Phe*~~

I love my siamese! His name is Sushi, lol, and he's a sweet old boy that I've had since he was about 2 months old. He's about 14 now, still a beautiful and opinionated Liliac point lol.

Over the last 3 days we've noticed a major behaviour change in him and we have no clue why. We're used to his 'mrow' around the house when he talks to us and when we're talking to him but lately he is walking all around the house constantly mrowing. It's starting to drive us nuts. If he was female and not fixed I swear he's going into heat. But as it is he is fixed and obviously not a girl. I've always been really in tune with him, knowing what he needs and when and this time I'm totaly stumped. Nothing in the house has changed either, the routine is the same, we snuggle, talk, play, ect with him. He's still sleeping in the bed with hubby and I. He's being a little more of an old buggar to our other cat Coco
Anyone have any similar experiances or suggestions with how to deal with it? Btw getting rid of him is NOT an option. He's my baby & not leaving home. But we live in an apt and our landlord is underneith us so Im worried if Sushi keeps it up we might be asked to leave. Love to hear some feedback on this!

Date: 9/3/2004 7:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    well twin, i think a trip to the vet might be in order, Sushi isn't the type to be so loud, so it's something to check out..
Date: 9/3/2004 7:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 3901    I have an old himalayan(sp?)/siamese cat, she's about 13 I believe.. anyways i'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe Sushi's just being cranky? Or being an older cat his joints might be aching or something else might be bothering him. My cat gets in moods every once in a while and you just have to let her be.
Date: 9/3/2004 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 855    well from what i know, male or female they meow alot more then other types of cats. i had a female siamese cat who walked around the house meowing like crazy...sounded like a baby crying, but she was female.. even when she was pregnant she still did it, i guess they just do that... now my cat got out one day and got hit by a car,and we lost her, never did i think i loved her that much until she died,we miss her alot, but like i said she did that all the time, even when she was pregnant, she did end up having one kitten but it died at birth, so now i just look at her pictures and i am so happy i had her for a while... she was my baby... i hope you can get your cat figured out,but i think those cats do that for no reason at all...

Date: 9/3/2004 7:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 25390    You might want to take him to the vet to check for kidney failure. My best friend's siamese is 16 years old and it started out with the same symptoms. Also, watch her eating habits to make sure she's not drinking a lot of water and not much food. Kidney problems are common in older siamese cats and it's better to be safe than sorry.
Date: 9/3/2004 7:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 62801    I have a siamese and he does the exact same thing. He'll act normal for months and then he'll just freak out and wonder around mrowing for seemingly no reason. My guess is that it will just go away in a few days. To be honest with you, I think that it's spirits messing around with my cat. *LoveisAll*
Date: 9/3/2004 9:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 17275    Maybe he isn't feeling well? I have a siamese but, he is only 2yrs old so not an old timer. I did have a older male cat who got vocal when he was ill so possibly a trip to the vet is needed?
Date: 9/4/2004 2:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 42945    I'd just suggest a trip to the vet hun....they are too precious to take a chance with their health....hugs
Date: 9/4/2004 9:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 62838    When my cat got older (she lived until she was almost 23), she miowed super loudly a lot and it sounded like she was in pain. I took her to the Vet and he told me it was a result of her hearing loss, he said cats who are losing their hearing will often do this. This is just one possibility though... you should take him to the vet to see if he's okay, just to be certain. *hugs* - Kokoro
Date: 9/4/2004 12:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 609    Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm trying to track down a vet now, the last vet sushi saw was a realy jerk. I have experiance working in a vet clinic and this vet showed me Sushis ex-rays then tried to convince me to pay for a procedure he didn't need. So I dont want to go back there. Good suggestions from you all tho, it gives me something to talk to the vet about and ideas of tests we can do. Thanks guys
