I am not into bugs or insects also. I think if you go to a hardwear store they may be a spray to help with the matter in hand. Deborah ![]() |

The vacuum cleaner works wonders on spiders and you don't have to get too close. ![]() |

Yes, there's an herb called tansey that will keep spiders and a lot of other pests away with out pesticides. It grows wild along river banks. My Mom is very afraid of spiders too. She lives in North Carolina, and every year she picks tansey and ties it in bunches and puts some in every room in her house. It's works really well. My Grandmother also had a great fear of spiders and used pesticides heavily. She died from cirrosis of the liver even though she never drank alcoholic beverages. Her doctors said her liver disease was the result of over use of pesticides. Natural is ALWAYS better. ![]() |

were we seperated at birth?! this is no lie....yesterday my mom found a snake in her laundry room. i had to go get it out. she was really ticked. i told her to calm down cause it wasn't like it was a spider! today, i am in my car with my mom. there is a spider in the cubby in my door. i stop the car in the driveway and grab her cane and start to beat the crap out of this thing. she gets out and comes around to get it out before i trash my car! then she calls me a big baby. hey, i wasn't the one screaming about a baby snake.........it was a spider the size of a kitten. the woman is nuts! she bought snake repelant. check with your local farm supply store and see if they have something for spiders. i think we should kill em all! ![]() |

I feel sorry for them, I don't want to suck them into the vacuum, but I'm too scared to approach them any other way :P. They seem to come inside when it's humid, at least they do in my home. - Kokoro |

Ok, here are some tips. Make sure faucets and drains are sealed or at least have some sort of straining device to halp barricade them from getting out. As I hear it that's how the really big ones get in. Any small, cramped, cluttered, unused place is a likely sopt for spiders, as well as anyspot that is unfinished, like if you take your wall down and it's exposed. Keeping your doors shut and screens on windows when they are down. Having a bug hungry cat might help, lol. I myself have a big tough hubby to escort them out of the house! lol Maybe this might be weird to you but I truly believe that if you are really scared of something, that thing will be particularly drawn to you. I have the same thing with spiders. Although my fear has lessened over the years. I suggest after doing a clean sweep of your home, doing things that calm you down or cheer you up to distract you so you aren't always focused on your fear and inadvertently hyping it up. I will have to try others suggestions on here, although I never knew spiders could smell. Also there are these electronic devices you plug in the wall that claim to keep spiders as well as other insects away up to so many square feet. ![]() |

Ick, I hate spiders! I always wonder how they get into the house sometimes!! I do the same thing, I'm always looking at the walls and everywhere incase there is a ugly bugger there. Great...now I'm looking around for spiders now!! LOL Uhmm, I'd stay make sure windows and doors are completly closed. Close heater vents and spot any place where a spider can crawl through. Cleaning the house regularly can help also. Sometimes bug bombing the inside of the house works. I did that before when we had fleas and I hadn't noticed any spiders in a while. ![]() |

Heh, thanks for the suggestions! I think my parents may object to the bug bomb but I could always say it was a stink bomb experiment gone wrong. *innocent!* My friend had a huge spider that was dead down the side of her cupboard once, it was huge! Her cat ate it so that was ok but kinda gross, lol. I was doing really well at getting over my fear too. I'm not bothered by small ones anymore but recently all the big ones (including a GIANT one that decided to wait on the floor of my room so I almost stepped on it) decide to crawl into the house and especially around my room. =S Aaaggghhh!!! The spiders are attacking me!!!! Hehe! |

I'm weird, the small ones and the big ones don't really freak me out as much as the medium size ones. I think it's becouse the medium size ones seem to be the faster ones, I can ussually stay fairly calm but when they start crawling and running is when I freak. arg, just a few weeks ago there was a good sized one almost directly over me in bed. it was just hovering there. Then when I went to find something to contain it dissapeared and I refused to sleep in my room till hubby found it. lol ![]() |

I have the same problem with hobo spiders. They're huge and they're fast! They're so scary! What works for us is spider traps, which you set up near doors, in closets, etc. They have a sticky glue on them that is scented with hormones so the spiders are drawn to it and get stuck and die. They work like a miracle. You can get them in hardware stores, gardening stores, etc. Good luck! ![]() |
