Sorry for the delay all...I only use a computer at work and being that I still work graveyards...sometimes I get busy or just plain tired. ;-)
Anyways....
I was trying to think of a good story to tell next about the antics that went on at my former job. I think it might be a good time to tell about the scariest encounter I ever had with a ghost.
I alread tried to explain the layout of the building but I will reiterate the layout of the floors. This layout is true for the second through the 8th floors. Anyways, when taking the elevator from the front entry hall to the floors above, I would step into the elevator bay on each floor. If I used the main elevators, I would step out and be facing the freigh elevator. There would be a long hallway to my left and a door to an office to my right. To the left of the freight elevator was the closet where the circuit breakers for the floors were located.
Each night, after the janitors left at about midnight, I would have to go to each floor. I would walk down the long hallways that was L-shaped. At the end, the corner turned to my right and there would be two more office doors and a second stairwell (the first was near the elevators). I would have to check every door to make sure that it was locked. Then I would have to walk back down the hallway to the elevator bay. I would enter the closet with the circuit breakers and turn off the power to the main lights on each floor. After doing so, the only light on the floor would be the glowing green exit sign at the farthest end of the hallyway and the two emergency lights on in the elevator bay.
In essence, it was dark after I was through, but not pitch black. I could still see to the end of the dimly lit hallway with the help of the green exit sign. That being said, it was still creepy to walk from the closet to the elevators with this dark hallway running down to what was now my right.
I always had a little bit of a problem on the third floor because there was a light about two thirds of the way down that would flicker on and off at random. It's a bit startling to be walking underneath a light and have it either go on or off. What was a little more startling is when I would say, "knock that off" and the light would stop flickering.
But my most frightening moment, with any of my ghostly encounters ever, took place on the fourth floor.
The night that it happened, I noticed that the ghostly activity in the building seemed to be a little higher than normal, but I wrote it off as me just being tire and therefore being more sensitive. When I got to the fourth floor, I checked all the doors and was on my way back to the closet when I noticed that I felt like I was being watched. I tried to convince myself that it was probably just the "children" up to their usual antics.
I turned the lights off and started to walk back toward the elevators when something drew my attention down to the long hall on my right. It took me a few seconds to figure out what I was seeing. It wasn't so much what I WAS seeing but what I WASN'T seeing. I couldn't see to the end of the hall. I knew for a fact that there was nothing in the hall because I had just returned from it. However, about halfway down the darkened hallway, I saw a figure that looked like it was half standing half crouching in the hallway. I couldn't see through it, as I would have if it had been a shadow, but I could see around it. I stared a little bit longer and started to take a step towards it (yes I can be very foolish at times) when I was suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of danger. I was sensing waves of malevolance from whatever was in the hallway. One thought occured to me right away, IT DOESN'T WANT ME HERE.
So I took the only course of action appropriate in such a situation and screamed like a little girl and ran away. :-D
I went down to the first floor and stayed there. I refused to go back up that night and finish closing up the building. I told my boss about it the next day and from then on, I refused to go to the fourth floor by myself.
