This is what i found on the net....no....he is not real, but a person used to scare children into behaving...this is the origin of where the term came from....It was originally a racist term used to describe african americans...Referring to "Boogie Woogie" form of jazz? Could come from W. African "Buuker" or "Buckra", meaning "Devil", "Boogie man" or "White Man". Turned around and used against Blacks by Whites. |
