I hate music censorenship cause I think how the singers/ bands write the music is how they want it to be and it shouldn't be anyother way cause it's kinda like saying oh they didn't want it how they wrote it and its not their stuff if its censored. What do you guys here at usm think?

I KNOW THIS IS A DEBATE BUT PLEASE KEEP IT G-RATED. ~*~hugs~*~

Date: 7/22/2004 5:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    Most censorship comes from governments trying to protect their youth from lyrics that are against their particular value points. With that said I believe that certain groups and individuals should be banned from being played in public but only certain songs that contain dangerous lyrics. Self censorship is a must and is lacking considerably in the world today. Also parental censorship is something that needs to be used but rarely is.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 23101    Uh, what is music censorship?
Date: 7/22/2004 5:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    No government has the right to determine what I listen to in my car or in my house. I should be able to listen to Korn or nirvana or Eminem if I wish. Same as others should be able to listen to Marilyn Manson, Pungent stench, Cannibal corpse and other groups who have questionable lyrics. I may not like some of these bands but I don't have the right to condemn a persons right to listen to them.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 23101    OOOOOH! Now I understand, LOL.. It didnt click the first time. LOL.. Anyways, i think some music should be cencored, but then again just but a little notice parental guidance suggested and call it good! LOL!! Then its up to the parent!
Date: 7/22/2004 5:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    I think music censorship, as far as blocking out swear words on the radio, is good. I have a 9 year old son who has some mental conditions and he hears these words enough at his school from other kids etc. I don't think he needs to hear them on the radio too. I do agree that the way a song is written is probably how they want it played...but people can always buy the CD to get the full version of it.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    little jung music censorship is when a government says that something is not morrally good enough to be listened to by anybody. It is the government telling us what we can or can not listen to.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 23101    No, scratch what i said.. i agree w/ cage
Date: 7/22/2004 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 62476    censorship is when in a song a curse word comes up and they don't say iy or it goes beep. I personally don't like censorship because the artists are allowed to write what they want. You got to be warned like they do by a parental guidance thing. I hate it.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 45630    censorship on the radio is fine but governments have been known to outlaw bands playing and selling their music in a particular country. This is outright wrong.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    as far as being allowed to sell their music in certain places, I think putting a ban on that is wrong. people should have the right to listen to whatever they want. I totally agree with it for the radio and TV etc...but as far as what you can buy in the store or see in concert, that should be up to the individual. As I said, I have a child and I like to know he isn't hearing all this stuff on the radio...but that doesn't mean that I dont have Eminem CDs. I am a 30 year old woman and should be allowed to listen to whatever I feel like.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61013    I agree with Kurt.
Date: 7/22/2004 5:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61013    and I understand where Cage is coming from. Love,Keri
Date: 7/22/2004 5:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61013    most people at my school think insane clown posse is oh so bad and of course i thought so to but then I saw in my usm fiancees profile that he liked them and so I was like oh what the heck i'll listen to them and the song wasn't edited and I loved it so that bad isn't bad and most bands and singers aren't.
Date: 7/22/2004 6:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    There is a rap song that talks about "milk shake". I'm not much into rap, but I kinda like that song. One day I was in the car with my fourteen year old, the song came on the radio and I asked her what "milk shake" meant in that song. She told me the true meaning and it was disgusting, but made sense after listening to the song more closely (boys lining up in her yard...waiting for a milk shake). The good news is, music can't get much worse or maybe I should say nastier than it already is. There really is no where left to go, but up. It should be censored or played only late at night.
Date: 7/22/2004 6:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61013    True I also dont think that it should be censored cause we're gonna hear those words eventually when we're older or at school or at a job and they cant censore that stuff out.
Date: 7/22/2004 6:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    By the way, my daughter said on the cd version, they don't say milk shake, but the true meaning...Guess she heard it at a friends house because I only allow her to buy the cds that have been edited for content.
Date: 7/22/2004 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 53157    I think censorship is good so young kids cant hear it and then be sayin everything they hear from it(even though they dont know what it means.)
Date: 7/22/2004 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 60426    http://unsolvedmysteries.com/usm338818.html
that's my reply...

Date: 7/22/2004 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 53157    But then again i dont like it because if your listening to a song its like bleep bleep. So really im undecided about it.
Date: 7/22/2004 8:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    I see your point, but there is a huge population that feels many lyrics are not proper for a young child to listen to..and some who are theselves offended by the lyrics. So unfortunately we are placed in a position where some things must be bleeped or edited in order to get airplay..I myself think that we should be able to listen to it as it is..free speech and all, and I personally feel that free speech applies to music, literature, film and stage just as much as it does to any type of speech.
Date: 7/22/2004 9:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 3836    Some artists do have obscene lyrics, so I think the radio should be censored. If you want to listen to that stuff so much, then go buy the CD.
Date: 7/22/2004 10:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 62787    i understand free speech, but when you have cus words for no reason in a song. grr. yes, kids do listen to the radio, and we SHOULD censor it. i hear kids in 3rd grade cussing. i try to tell them to stop cussing because its not cool, you know what they tell me to do? they say f word off! i could not believe my ears. i dont even cus and this 3rd grader has a sailor mouth.- Blade of the Samurai
Date: 7/22/2004 11:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 62275    Because of the "monkey see, monkey do" effect, I think censorship is good. I have a friend how has a 2 year old that says worse than I do because of being exposed to that type of language and such. Yes, as adults we have the right to listen to whatever we please, but as for the adults that have children, maybe they want to listen to the stuff they like, but at the same time not expose their little ones to it. So, in a way this censorship just reaches a happy medium. The adults get to listen to what they like while protecting their kids from it, and at the same time you can go out and buy the ones that aren't censored.
Date: 7/23/2004 12:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 11348    I agree with music censorship. If there were no music censorship, many people would not listen to music on the radio at all.... or there would have to be certain stations of certain ratings. How would you like to turn on the radio and listen to a song that is not insulting in its words or phrases, only to find the next song is outrageously obscene and would offend many people.... and what if you had your children with you? I think that if you're going to appeal to a general audience, it needs to be respectful. Of course if they were to decide to censor all songs on albums, I would not agree with that. If you buy the cd, you put up with the words. But as far as censorship when playing to a general audience, I think it's absolutely necessary. There are some really bad songs out there.
Date: 7/23/2004 2:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    I think that on the radio, and tv, its fine. But I don't think certain bands or songs should be banned.
Date: 7/23/2004 9:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 62682    Personally, I agree with the cencership (however you spell it, cant spell either). It is an R rated world we live in and it is a shame. Every where you look, On the media, Movies, Music, in the world around us and it seems like in everything there is violence. I dont see it necessary to use that kind of languege to get your point across. You can sing with out and make your point without the language. I personally find the language offending in alot of music. All the cussing and swearing I dont approve of, and it should be censored. I dont want my children growing up listening to that crap. That is just my oppinion.

Date: 7/23/2004 10:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    Artists may have a right to write the lyrics and consumers may have a right to purchase and listen to these albums. Businesses, however, should not have to sell any material they find objectionable. Parents should have the right to monitor and censor any material their children have access to.
Date: 7/24/2004 3:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    i think it shouldnt happen either, i mean if its a private buisness saying they wont carry cd's because of profanity thats cool or certain stations not having shows of extreme content, i dont think the government should regulate it
Date: 7/27/2004 6:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Exactly alfrowl..it's up to the parents to censor what a child hears..and it's up to the parent to teach the child that sometimes in life they are going to hear certain words, terms, phrases, and discussions and the parent needs to teach the child that although they may hear it, that they should not necessarily repeat or mimic it. There are many things in this world that we may not agree with and we cannot always shield our children from these things. I think it's better to teach them than to try to hide them from the reality..people have the right to express themselves as they see fit, whether we all agree with these forms of expression or not..be it music, movies, art, or even every day discussion. Kids are going to hear it..its our jobs as parents to teach our kids right from wrong and what is acceptable (in our eyes) and what is not.
Date: 7/27/2004 6:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 61013    yea I do agree with that
Date: 8/3/2004 3:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 59261    Censorship on any scale is bad. Our 1st Amendment
is slowly being taken from us. Speak out against
censorship. Gag the people you may as well gag
yourself. ~*Robyn*~
