i think some of it was a hoax..blown out of proportion, but i do think something happened there. as with most stories that get turned into a movie, there is basis for it but they add to it for effect. have you read any on the exorcist and what is behind that one? it's a VERY interesting tale. did happen, though it was a boy instead of a girl. and that boy is still around though his identity is kept secret so he won't be hounded by folks. possessions happen. too many cases of it that have been documented by well respected people and priests alike (some priests are still well respected.LOL ). the most interesting thing that happens during those that lead me to believe some are authentic, are the raised letters and words and whelps that form on the skin (has been done while people were observing it firsthand)..and the ability of some to speak in languages they simply cannot know. some very ancient languages that few people in the world still know. |

I actually found a very interesting article on the boy in The Exorcist. The writer even claims he tracked the boy down and talked to him. |

is that article on the net? i'd like a link if you have it. there's been a lot of 'proof' that the whole amityville thing was a hoax..but just as much 'proof' that something happened. i think it happened and then was expounded on to get more money either from the movie or the real estate or both. i very much believe that some places can harbor negative 'vibes'..to put it mildly. violent murders occur, and seem to reoccur at later dates. i watched a show on some bar (and i can't remember which one) where at least 6 murders had occured over a couple of centuries. the place was haunted and many staff had witnessed it, and it was a violent haunt. lots of the murders had occured in the bathroom area..and staff and patrons had been accosted violently by some unseen force while in the bathroom. and as i said, murders kept happening like the whole vibe of the place drove people crazy. i've felt negative energy from specific spots....but i don't think violence happened.http://www.myusm.com/usm76286.html is my post on that. 8-) |

Welcome. I read your article and I have never had that feeling about a place or building, but I did have that feeling over a entity, which no one will ever convince me wasn't a demon. It was the feeling of evil that was overwhelming. Interestingly enough George Lutz claimed to know the name of the demon haunting the Amityville home, but refused to speak it's name. I had that same feeling just talking about the demon I saw. |

i wouldn't want to speak it's name either. i know someone that supposedly had several demons in her. family members said they did see and hear strange things. i asked her of it once and she was immediately upset..fearful for me. didn't want me to even think of it let alone speak of it, because she said that can attract them back. |

The book "Parapsychology, the controversial science", goes into detail explaining tha Amityville Horror, as a total hoax. |

There are quite a few sites that say it's a total hoax, too. Very convincing arguments. So much in wrapped up in the murders themselves. Even George Lutz will admit that the book was embellished. Would you go in to tour the house? I would, but one cold spot or evil feeling and I'm a memory. LOL |

Oh, and the Warrens claim to have frightening evidence on film. They only display them at their lectures. Anyone here ever been to one? |

I think something went on in that house,I don't think it was all that the movie portrayed though, and the reason the newer owners may not be experiencing anything is because whatever is there could be dormant,or it takes certain people to charge the hauntings back up again. I think that if anything is definitely haunting that house it would be the murdered DeFeo's. |

I remember reading somewhere that the Lutz family later admitted they'd made the entire thing up. It was all a hoax but they claimed that there was evidence of a slight haunting. One picture taken in the house when it was empty depicts a little boy standing in the hall.... other than that if it's haunted, it's remained practically dormant. I've heard also that others who have lived there have moved out of that house quickly just for the tourists driving by to get a look at the house. |

I've heard about the little boy picture. I think it's one that the Warrens let The History Channel use for a documentary. I have never seen it. Also strange is that Ric Osuna claims that there was a seventh victim - a girl about 1o years old. He claims he found it on a roll of film from the crime scene in the Suffolk County evidence room. |
