For those who claim Moore's film is "propaganda", you've really not been paying attention and getting your information from the Republican's own Right Wing Fox News (Faux News) and others of that ilk. "If you throw a frog into boiling water, it jumps out and saves its life. If you put a frog in warm water and gradually heat it to boiling, it will swim, then get sleepy and get cooked to death. Propaganda can do the same thing to patriots. They get so comfortable with the news that is being fed to them, by the government, with the cooperation of sold-out media, that they wake up one day and the country isn't the America they knew. It's a fascist nation with rights taken away, with vote counts controlled by unaccountable corporations, with trans-national corporations dictating policy for the future of our energy planning. It can happen here. It will if people don't wake up."--Rob Kall. I saw the film, and there were many film clips that says it all. The crud coming from BUSH own mouth, right there in living color. The words coming from Corporation execs, right out of their own mouths are shown saying war is bad for the people but "good for business". Yeah, I am more than FED UP. |
Date: 7/21/2004 7:48:00 AM From Authorid: 62728 Couldn't the argument that those who believe that Moore's film is nothing but propoganda and they haven't been paying attention just as easily be flipped? I mean couldn't it just as easily be argued that those who believe Moore's film whole heartedly have not been paying attention and are getting their information from slanted sources as well? The truth lies somewhere in the middle. How high and mighty we get when we firmly believe that we are the uncorruptable one. The frog will swim in the boiling water that has been slowly heated whether a Republican or a Democrat is the one fanning the flames. -DeltaRebel |
Date: 7/21/2004 7:58:00 AM From Authorid: 24924 What is YOUR point, Delta? OF COURSE, no one should look at just ONE side of anything or anyone. IF we were making that assertion, or trying to deny, squelch, or censor the other view points, then you might have a point here in countering the way you have. The film shows all the stuff that the Bush administration DOESN'T WANT to be known, and he and his supporters can't really offer any credible rebuttal to those things shown, so they MUST (and do!) attack and slander the messenger (Moore). By the way, Delta, did YOU personally see the film? |
Date: 7/21/2004 8:08:00 AM From Authorid: 30747 There could be no better proof of anything than what you see with your own eyes and hear with your own ears. I have not seen the movie but I have to assume that what ever aledged propoganda people may say Micheal Moore is spreading must be their own denial because what comes out of Mr. Bush's mouth to our ears is indisputable. Mr. Moore didn't script it. He didn't dub anything. To be honest, I don't know if anything was taken out of context because I have not seen the film but I'm leaning more towards believing those who dislike Bush because of it. I intend to see it soon. |
Date: 7/21/2004 8:09:00 AM From Authorid: 62728 My point was simply that you stated that those who think the film is propaganda aren't paying enough attention because they didn't draw the same conclusion you did, and that's not correct. There are enough news sources out there reporting that Moore's film is innaccurate at best to throw warning flags up that his side of events aren't exactly kosher. Certainly we see clips of statements and images in flashes, but they are hand selected by Moore for a reason. Newsweek, Slate Magazine, MSNB and many others have already reported many times on how he plays fast and loose with the facts in this film as in others. Whether I have seen the film or not is truly irrelevant to the conversation because it is possible to learn enough through other sources to know when something isn't accurate, but yes, I have seen it. As someone who got degrees in history and journalism, I am all too well aware of how a propogandist spin machine works, and you are truly seeing it from both sides in this heated election year. -DeltaRebel |
Date: 7/21/2004 8:22:00 AM From Authorid: 62728 Make no mistake, Souldrifter...Bush says some stupid things. But do we really need Moore's film to let us know that? LOL....Some of the biggest issues with Moores film aren't so much the clips of what he shows Bush saying or doing (sitting there for several minutes after the 9/11 attack), but rather they are with him playing fast and loose with his facts and sometimes omitting facts that contradicted what he wants to say all together. I don't want to turn this into a debate out of respect for KK, since she put the threat under discussion (though admittedly I am still figuring out the difference between debate and discussion on USM). I'll be happy to share and talk with you on another thread under debate if you want. I'm not one who blindly supports Bush, and don't know that I will vote for him OR Kerry this November. But I do know that I am going to take much more into account than a film...and when Michael Moore tells me "A" happened and then Newsweek and MSNBC and Slate magazine come out and say "A" happened, but not like Moore said and it comes out almost being like an entirely different event when more information is added to the scene, then I do owe it to myself to ask more questions. -DeltaRebel |

Delta, MY beef is with those conservatives who have not seen the film, and who attack the film as being untruthful. MY point is, We all CAN debate on the exact percentage of time that Bush took off before Sept 11; or we CAN debate many of the conclusions drawn from examining both sides claims and assertions, but what you CAN'T debate is the film footage of Bush at a dinner saying "Welcome, my friends, the haves and the have mores!" or this gem: "Some might call you the elite. I call you my base." WE NEED TO BE REMINDED of the stupid things he says and has said since the beginning. Here, take this for example: Bush has called himself a "WAR President" in leading the United States in a battle against terrorism brought about by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America. "I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign policy matters with war on my mind," he said in February. BUT THEN, it is another flip flop HERE: Campaigning in Iowa last week , Bush said: "The enemy declared war on us," Bush told a re-election rally in Cedar Rapids. "Nobody wants to be the war president. I want to be the peace president... The next four years will be peaceful years." Bush used the words "peace" or "peaceful" a total of 20 times. Sorry, Delta, NOT seeing the film IS RELEVENT. Very much so. One should not rely upon EITHER side, but see for themselves the content. |
Date: 7/21/2004 9:39:00 AM From Authorid: 62503 i hate Moore... I have not once respected a piece of his work. Im not a bush fanatic but i do like Bush. Something as big as the 9/11 attack is pretty much unstoppable. For almost EVERY terrorist attack against the US the government has had prior knowledge of. but they dont generally have enough knowledge on the situation to prevent it and even if they did it would be very hard to stop it from happening. The FBI went on TV a few months ago saying they have word on another huge terrorist attack happening within the next year and all they can do to prepare us is to tell us to prepare for the worst. I dont blame bush for any of this. I believe he came back and did the right thing by keeping the support up in our nation and not letting this become a time of complete worry and chaos... |

Date: 7/21/2004 7:56:00 PM From Authorid: 62728 KK, I don't think anyone disputes that he shows the words actually coming from Bush's mouth, but sound bytes can be manipulated and taken out of context easily too. Working around television media, I can tell you it's easily done and often done. Moore is guilty of it himself in other films where he has taken speeches from months and years apart and spliced them together to appear as one speech and said they were in the same speech. He has taken quotes and edited portions out of them and spliced them together with other quotes to completely fabricate a quote. I don't think anyone is saying (or at least I am not) that Bush didn't say those things because those words clearly came out of his mouth. But, what I think most people are saying is don't just take Moore's word for it that it went down the way he said it did, because history has proven in his other films that it most likely didn't quite go down like that. -DeltaRebel |
Date: 7/21/2004 9:20:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62752 thats very very true, but i dont think he is stupid enough to do that, the pres would have a lawsuit on him so fast it would make his head spin. instead they tried everything for micheal moore not to show it, hmmmm guilty enough for me LOL KK |

Date: 7/22/2004 7:56:00 AM From Authorid: 62728 KK, actually he knows the press won't sue him because they are hesitant to do that anyway. There was a great article I will pm you about why he knows that he won't be sued that was written in Newsweek I think it was. Libel suits are not easy to fight and they are expensive. Plus, the President being such a public figure is not covered as much as a private figure would. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Moore's statements and presentations aren't false, they are simply misleading and misrepresented. That makes it even more difficult. -DeltaRebel |
