Perhaps there was more to the situation that people are unaware of?... |

I too was raised by a single mother and always had great care while she was at work. I'd have to agree with Becky... how responsible is the 16 yo and were the children in harm's way at the time? |

That does make any sense to me....if she is a good mother, how can they put her in jail? She is trying to provide for her family by working..I see nothing wrong with a 16 year old babysitting 2 kids as long as the 16 year old is capable of doing so...There could be more to it then meets the eye though...What people see on the outside isn't always going on on the inside I guess. |

No...I'm pretty sure that's it because I grew up with her kids and been to their house many times before and it couldn't be a more nicer place. She was always taking them to the movies and zoo when they were smaller and there has definately been no signs of any abuse. It's just for leaving them home unattended. |

Hmmm unattended? But if the 16 year old is capable of watching the kids then there should not have been a problem. Unless of course Child Welfare felt the kids could be in harm's way.. |

The 16 year old is pretty responsible. He gets good grades in school and during the holidays he helps out a charities to raise money and get donations for poorer families. He's almost like the perfect child, in a way. |

I don't see a problem. Over here a 14 yr old is legally able to babysit. She must be devastated! I wonder what their reason was for taking the children, surely they couldn't just take them when they were being looked after by someone responsible enough to do so. |

I'm sorry if I seem doubtful... I have no first hand knowledge. If you believe in your friend, I would support her in her cause, and help make her case with children's services and get it atleast taken off her record. |

If she was as good a mom as you say she was, and I have no reason to doubt you, then yes it is crazy. 16 is plenty old enough to be responsible. 12 year olds in my state can babysit for crying out loud. I was watching my 6 siblings when I was 13. I'm wondering who turned her in and for why. Seems like something is missing. I can see maybe, possibly having the kids taken away but jail time? Update this if you find out anything else. |

My sister babysat me ever since she was 12. 16 is old enough to babysit 2 small children, and I really think it's stupid to have done that to the mother if she was providing for them well, and they were not in danger. |

There is nothing wrong with this picture, I wonder why all of this even happened Nimiwae. It's kind of stupid. The babysitting age is 12, or 13 and 16 is plenty old enough to watch two sibs. How dumb. *Turdle Hugz* |

That's ridiculous!!! I mean, most babysitters in the business, like what pretty muchly everybody already commented on, are under 16. Perhaps you should go and talk to the welfare centre or something like that, and find out who reported her in the first place. That's just insane. |

I guess it would be different if the babysitter was hired, BUT in Missouri when a child is between the ages of 13 and 18 they can only watch the younger siblings for no more than 6 hours at a time. Although I think it's stupid since it's their own siblings. Poor woman! I'm going to pray for her and her children tonight. |

are you sure their was not another reason why it happened. like I can see why it was stupid what she did I see nothing wrong with leaveing them home so long as the 16 year old was responsible enaf. perents leave children who are younger at home alone to take care of the house for weeks for busnes trips and stuff. maybe their was somthing else going on that you did not hear about. |

This is a perfect example of a law whose intent, at least on the surface, never went beyond the mindset that laws can be used and interpreted, according to their wording, in a way thought totally unimanginable or even preposterous as to the original intent. Unfortunately, this family got caught up in a system that doesn't recognize flaws until someone like this is so adversely affected. God Bless. |
