Anyone had trouble while coming off Depo Provera? (Gals only please)

I've read about alot of gals who think they may be pregnant because of symptoms that they are having since stopping Depo Provera. I have recently stopped taking it as well. (About a week and a half ago I was due for the next shot). I don't think I am pregnant at all but here's my problem... I am now having symptoms of a period, the bloating, water retention, sore breasts,cramps... all that is missing is the bleeding itself. Other than that, I am basically having a period by the way it all feels.

I am just curious, what is normal compared to what isn't while coming off this drug?

I am not ready to be pregnant myself just yet, but I do want to give my body a break from it. So it's safe to say, I shouldn't worry about getting pregnant for a while then cause I read that it can take up to a year for it to totally get out of your system... but with me having the symptoms I am, am I getting back to normal already?

Thanks in advance!

Date: 7/10/2004 6:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 3835    only a doctor can diagnose you properly and safely, not people here at USM...
Date: 7/10/2004 6:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 23796    I was one of those people who couldn't take it..I had Nordiplant (Same stuff as DEPO) and blead for 6months straight. Had to get them removed. You need to see your doctor, as Sur5r said. Just to let you know, stoping Depo Causes a 50% increase to get pregnant. (meaning if you are Furtile, you have basically 100% chance of pregnancy) I became pregnant within a month of having Nordiplant removed. Definately go see you doctor.
Date: 7/10/2004 6:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 42792    I got pregnant while on Depo. I didn't get any periods for the first 5 months that I was on it and then BAM pregnant... My periods have never been the same since.

Date: 7/10/2004 6:39:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 50490    I did see my doctor, she couldn't tell me much about it other than "irregular periods are not uncommon after stopping Depo" and when I told her about what all I was doing and asked her if it was wearing off faster because of it, all she could tell me was "Every woman is different". Seems like the medical community doesn't know a lot about it really, other than the Depo company published info, but that's not really going to offer the negative aspects of it.
Date: 7/10/2004 6:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 3835    Hmmm.. best to take some precautions then, if pregnancy is not an option for you at the time being.. sounds like this is some powerful stuff, but getting off of it, sounds like there may be some side affects not really understood.. even by the medical field.. brings me to a pondering in my mind now, Lol.. if it is not totally understood as a medication, why is it being offered to society then by practicing and licensed physicians?? Well, from the sounds of it, at least the pamphlets have some sound information on it for you.. but are they written from medical associates, or from the maker of that medicine??
Date: 7/10/2004 9:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 15677    I was on depo for 3 years and it really totalled my body I was tired all the time, week, restless , gained about 40 pounds and just generally felt like crap. After getting off it took about 6 months till i started to feel normal again.

Date: 7/10/2004 7:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 53157    I have no idea. You should go see a doctor and ask him.
Date: 7/13/2004 12:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 62704    Yup I had almost all the symptoms you are having. I also had periods in between periods for a while.
Date: 7/18/2004 11:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 62813    I totally agree with Star I also had the same problems that she mentioned coming off of Depo...as well as the feelings you explained and I would just like to say...try not to worry too much cause stress can do some pretty nasty things to the body too. Just try to take it easy and you should soon be feeling better.
