I wrote a post not too long ago asking "What is a redneck" Sometimes you see replies that read and you can't stop thinking about. A master of words and detail. His reply to my post was one to sit and read, not that any others was bad, but it was such a reply that I thought I'd write this in case you missed it,

" What is a redneck? A redneck is a person that some may look down on, but they do so without the knowledge of who that person really is. A redneck is the salt of the Earth. They work hard for what they have, and play harder when the time comes. They may be the farmer, mechanic, or construction worker, that makes life easier for the rest. They are not afraid of hard work, or getting dirty doing it. They are not afraid to speak their piece, and stand behind every word they say. Their wisdom may not come from schoolbooks, but from the things they have personally experienced in life. They will normally shun a handout, but will in turn give you the shirt off their back. If you are broke down on the road, they will be the first to stop and help you, and will never expect payment for their efforts. Yes, you will normally find them smoking a cigarette, enjoying a dip, or a plug of chew, and beer is often a good form of refreshment for them, as well as the occasional sip of good corn whiskey. They are likely to have a gun hanging in the window of their truck, or one laying on the seat, and will gladly defend their right to have it there. They may live in a trailer or old frame house, but it is their's and it is paid for, which is more than many can say about their homes. Their vehicles may look old and run down, but you can bet they are in as good of mechanical condition as the fancy cars they pass on the road. Besides, when was the last time you saw an old pickup broke down while driving down the interstate? They are not racist, or against the way others live. They are just proud of who they are and not afriad to show their pride, especially in their heritage. They will often have dirt or grease under their nails, and their hands will be rough and calloused from the hard work they do. Their necks are red, and so are their arms and face, from long days toiling in the hot sun. There blood is also red, and they are not afraid to shed that blood to fight for the things they believe in, and for a country they love. Yes, some may look down on a redneck, but they have to be pretty tall to do so, since you will be hard pressed to find a person that will stand as tall with pride as the American redneck." Date: 7/10/2004 4:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 47296    Thank you B Monkey. I am indeed humbled by your accolades. Living in an area of Alabama that some call the redneck capitol of the state, I have known more than my share of such people, and indeed have been called redneck myself numerous times. A steel and sheetmetal worker by trade, my neck is as red as any, and I come from a long line of those who were not afraid of a hard day's work in the hot southern sun. Like all of them, I take pride in who I am, and both my southern and native heritage.

It is one of the most eloquent and beautifully written that I've seen on USM ever and very true too. Rednecks are generally good folks, and I've met my share being here in southern TN.
