indie films are films usually funded by private orgs or individuals. they call them that bc they dont rely on a big production company.  |

pretty much any film made in the U.S. that isn't backed by one of the major studios in Hollywood. This can include student films, films financed by private individuals (f.i. Kevin Smith financed "Clerks" by charging 50,000 dollars on credit cards), and small, independent studios (based in other parts of the country), like Artisan.  |
