Does Television and Music actually influence our children, and can television and music actually be blamed for what children do in society?

This is the topic....lets debate!

I will give my opinion in a little while!

Date: 7/8/2004 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    a very old debate... and i'm still not completely sure... i think it has some influence, but it can't be completely blamed for what happens... even if TV or music has an influence, there is still some influence inside the person to make them do the stuff they do.
Date: 7/8/2004 8:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53054    Sorry its an old debate...didnt check when it was last debated! Sorry again!
Date: 7/8/2004 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    If someone is that easily influenced they were weak to begin with and it's not music or television's fault.
Date: 7/8/2004 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Did it influence you? It certainly influenced me in many ways. Music in a good way... television in a not so good way. But then we all have a bit of good and bad to feed.
Date: 7/8/2004 8:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    no, Gazza.. that was not being mean to you.. i was just mentioning that people have debated this for a while in this country and this world. i remember back when there was a magazine article where someone said that Eminem made his sister commit suicide.. so don't take that one the wrong way.. i'm just saying that it's been in my mind before, and i still don't have a full answer.
Date: 7/8/2004 8:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 62753    i watched all kinds of stuff growing up - i didnt kill anyone ----- muhahahahaha YET! lizard-1
Date: 7/8/2004 9:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    I'm goin' with BASE on this one.....
Date: 7/9/2004 5:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    i think if parents explain that television is not real and how all the gory stuff is really done, it helps a lot. my kid (go figure!) was watching friday the 13th. when she was three years old. i walked in the room and she had put the tape in. i started to turn it off when she asked if they used ketsup or something else to make the blood! so i tried to explain how that stuff really worked and she has always watched it. kids are pretty smart about stuff like that.
Date: 7/9/2004 6:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    I agree with Base!! -Sunni
Date: 7/9/2004 7:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 19613    I think nowadays media definatly has a strong influence over people, but not enough to use as an excuse for behaviour. it is only dangerous if parents become lazy and let the TV raise their children, instead of themselves.
Date: 7/9/2004 11:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 29387    Television and music are blamed by lazy parents who don't know how to parent their children.
Date: 7/9/2004 1:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 22992    Base makes a good point, but i think that way too much television is watched by young people and older people alike, weather this influences i dont know, but there is too much of it
Date: 7/9/2004 4:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    Answer to the first part: ABSOLUTELY. Answer to the second part: NO.
Date: 7/9/2004 11:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    Dark Phoenix is correct.
Date: 7/10/2004 4:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 62782    I think they do have an impact on kids, but only a small one. I used to watch scary movies when I was a kid and listen to gangsta rap. And I turned out ok... or at least I think so. But I also had my mom and dad to correct me went I started to go off track. But I agree with a number of you. It is the parents who dont have good contact with the kids. And alot of their reasons for not spending more time with the kids is they are working alot to live a good life. Ok, having a brand new house, car, big screen tv, etc. isnt living a good life. You dont need money to live comfortable, and so I think alot of the parents whos children do the bad things blame the media for their lack of parenting. *AMADOR*
Date: 7/10/2004 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 62599    Tv and music can influence young kids alot, I hear watching too much tv turn little kids aggresive, but i would think that around age 10 if your still getting influenced then somethings wrong and it ain't the TV.
Date: 7/10/2004 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    Let a five year old watch an hour of WWE Wrestling and see if it doesn't influence him...
Date: 7/11/2004 3:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    i dont think music influences anything but other musicians and i dont think tv influences kids at all. its bad parenting that does it. how hard is it to tell your kid "no, crack is bad" or "no, its not ok to pimp out girls" i mean come on
