Slot Machines

They have recently passed legislation to allow up to 61,000 slot machnines in my state, the state of Pennsylvania. Now i think this is all good and fine, because the politicans claim they will help reduce certain taxes. BUT, what's this, it says in this newspaper that the lawmakers who passed the legislation for the slot machnines get to own 1% of the revenue they generate. Now the expected revenue from these is 3,000,000,000,00. (3 Billion Dollars) 1% of 3 billion dollars is 30,000,000.00 (30 million dollars - if you don't belive me do a proportion.) Now how is that just and fair? thats an extra 3 million a year for these fat, bloodsucking politicians who feed off the general populace. It is not fair for them to own part of a gambling operation. WhT does everyone else have to say on this?

Date: 7/8/2004 6:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 62476    Yeah I heard about this, I heard it will lower our taxes by about 400 dollars and most of the slot machines will be in the poconos. I personally disagree with the desicion. I don't want hear turning into vegas.
Date: 7/8/2004 6:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 24319    In CT, my home state, we have 2 huge casino's and from what I understand, the money coming from there helps out to state a whole bunch. I never really paid attention to that whole thing, I only know I have a nice place to go and have fun when I have the money to blow.
Date: 7/8/2004 6:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Where I live, only the Indian (Native American) Reservations have slot machines & gambling. The ONLY exception, is we have gambling cruises, that go, what, 25 miles? out to sea, which is no longer Florida's Coast line, but "International" waters in the Gulf.
Date: 7/8/2004 6:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Oh, back to the topic at hand, I don't think there's anything wrong with slot machines. At least your politicians are being up-front & honest about the whole thing. Besides, better the politicians, than the Mob. Oh, wait, scratch that.....
Date: 7/8/2004 6:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 62383    Slot machines are good... if someone loses all there money thats there problem. But I dont know about the whole thing where they earn money from it... I dont think that is right. They should give that to some other cause, like a charity like building houses for people or something, yah know?
Date: 7/8/2004 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    i don't think its fair either
Date: 7/8/2004 7:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 27583    POLITIONS - MOB , WHATS THE DIFFERENCE ? they all get what they want reguardless what we think. good post , wooden nickel
Date: 7/8/2004 9:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    Any form of gambling is another way to take money from those that need it most. IMO, it is hypocritical for politicians to claim they are concerned about the plight of the disadvantaged and yet vote for legalized gambling. Find out who supported for this legislation and vote them out of office.
Date: 7/9/2004 1:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    it's a mistake. Sure, they'll bring in extra revenue for a while, but pretty soon that'll get absorbed into public programs and people's pockets, or wherever the heck all our tax money goes to, and then what...more slot machines? Plus, it's not really generating economic growth-- it's just taking extra money from people who already live in the state. Usually the ones with gambling problems, so you're creating more social problems to boot.
Date: 7/9/2004 3:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 22992    It certainly is not fair, but what is anymore
Date: 7/10/2004 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 62599    Heck if your gambling it's your mistake my friend
Date: 7/10/2004 8:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62249    Wooden Nickle, you can say that again. - MC Bacon
Date: 7/11/2004 3:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    i have to say yes it is and if you look at it, the 1% will help line their pockets but in the long run it'll help line yours as well.
Date: 7/12/2004 12:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 49374    that is 1%, but where's the other $2.7 billion going? to businesses and working people for the economy. It's a great way to raise money for the state, and really, it's benefitting people overall....just my thoughts anyway. ~ter
Date: 7/12/2004 2:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 12453    Makes you kinda wish you were one these lawmakers now don't it?
Date: 7/12/2004 2:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 12453    Oh and the other 2.7 billion prolly going to the welfare people, that's where most our money here in kentucky goes.
