OK, I have been messaging with Gail and what we have come up with is to have a Saturday get together, and then, for those who wish to stay over until Sunday, kind of play it by ear for things to do. The Birmingham area is enormous, and there is no shortage of things to do, and sites to see. I am going to check with Oak Mountain State Park on pavilion availability for that Saturday. They have numerous pavilions surrounding a small lake, and the scenery in the rolling hills is awesome. If we are unable to get a pavilion at Oak Mountain, there are several other state parks less than an hours drive from Birmingham. As far as I am concerned, we can call the first Weekend in June, which is the 4th and 5th, a definite date for the first annual USM Alabama Getaway. I am going to get in touch with some of the people involved with the Oregon get together, and see how they worked their's on the west coast. As time goes by, we will get more details out.  |

For those a little further away, you will find Birmingham easily accesible by interstate. There are three interstates that run through Birmingham, I-20, I-59, and I-65. It is less than 3 hours from Atlanta, and about 4 hours from Nashville. It is also about a 4 hour drive for those along the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. There is a major airport there just off I-20/I-59, in the northeast part of town. As for Oak Mountain State Park, it is located south of Birmingham proper, near the Pelham community. It is 9,940 acres, and offers vacation cottages, golf, improved camping, picnicking, tennis, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, a demonstration farm, and horse boarding and riding facilities. |

That will give MsPriss and I a chance to ride up to Oak Mountain and check out the pavilions, and see what we can get that will best fit our needs.
