I am a Telemarketer..well was one until Wednesday when I got promoted to Quality..LOL..still work there though, and I loved my job!! Our company may be closing down at the end of the month though due to problems with FCC regulations..Telemarketing isnt for everybody..You have to have thick skin and be able to handle some nasty people..but it has its rewards when you come across some wonderful people..they certainly make up for the nasty people. It also depends on what you are selling..I sold AT&T Long distance..a reputable company..there are some telemarketers out there that are scammers, and they ruin it for those trying to make an honest living.  |

Thanks Lady Luck! It's good to hear something positive about the job. You said it isn't for every one, that's why I thought maybe I'd try it out and see if it is or not..Otherwise, I'd never know. I know of two telemarketer places around here, MCI, which I guess I would be selling phone stuff. Or this other one, I don't know what it's called, but it's where my friend works and he sells vacation plans. I think I'd go to MCI first though. Anyway, thanks for the response- if I don't find anything else I want to try, I probably will end up giving telemarketing a try. That's why I thought I'd ask around first  |

I tried something similiar to telemarketing, it was more like soliciting for clothes for a Woman's Shelter. I had a list of phone numbers that was given to me and I would sit there and call people asking them if they had donations like clothing, furniture, etc. I did not like the job one bit. I did not like the idea of calling people and asking them for stuff. I quit after 2 nights of working there. I was also the only one there by myself and if by the end of the week, I did not have enough people to donate clothing, etc. I would have to be let go. It was a job that I will never ever want to do again.  |

I tellemarketed twice.. the first job was asking for donations for amvets or something.. the second was basement water-proofing.. I once had a man tell me to hold on, put the phone to his rearend and pass gas. It was humiliating and sickening. Another option for you to try would be collections - the people are no more rude then the people you call tellemarketing, but you have a valid reason to be calling. There are better bonuses, better pay and better bennifits. Most major collections offices offer tuition reimbursment, depending on what you are planning to go to college for. I have had some pretty gross stuff happen too Melissa..some of it NOT G-rated..I usually just continue on as though nothing happened...I think the nastiest is when they are using the bathroom while talking to you..You can HEAR them doing it, and grunting and then hear the toilet flush..funny thing is though..I dont hear them washing their hands..I actually said to a person once..Oooh..You forgot to wash your hands! Go back to the bathroom..The person got a little flustered and hung up..hmmm..wonder why?? Maybe its because THEY had meant to fluster me and it didnt work?? LOLOL |

I got a letter in the mail the other day asking me to call a certain telemarketing agency and schedule an interview... i have never heard of this company and never put anything up that i am looking for a job (i am a stay at home mom and plan to stay that way). I would never be a telemarketer, people are too mean to them and i am way too sensitive. I would end up crying on the phone -Lindsay AKA Katiebugsmom  |

I tried selling a carpet cleaning service by telephone. We were given pages out of a phone book and told to start at the top and call all the names we could. I lasted one day. Since I did not sell anything, the manager politely let me go. I hated it.  |

I dont like when they call my house. I especially dont like when they wont take no for an answer. It wouldnt be so bad if they would just hang up when I tell them I aint interested. The local newspaper calls me about twice a month, every month.  |

I was a telemarketer once way back when I was 19 and it was alright lol...I only stayed with it for about 4 weeks.. I've seen both sides of the fence. Some people are really rude if you call them, but they need to realize you are doing your job and trying to make a living same as the next person. I think if you're nice and polite there shouldn't be a problem...Some do really well working as telemarketers, it may turn out to be a job you'll enjoy  |

I never worked as a telemarketer but my brother did for years. He didn't like it because people would yell at him all the time. He hates phones now too. He will never answer a phone unless he knows who it is and sometimes he doesn't answer it at all. If you like talking on the phone than maybe the job is for you but if you hate phones than stay away from telemarketing. Good luck on finding a new job!  |
