Judge William Lake was killed in a duel with a political adversary in October 1861.The duel took place at DeSoto Point, and the judge died without informing his wife of the planned duel. After her husband's death, Mrs. Lake sought solace in her beautiful gardens, where she spent almost all of her time. Her ghost lingers there to this day.Same source,p.243.
