talk to whoever prescribed it to you, first of all. I was on paxil last year and I took myself off of it and went into a 6 month withdrawal that I'm still reeling from...get professional advice first |

Fake happiness or Real happiness..Be thankful you aren't depressed anymore...Taking yourself off of meds without a doctors advice, isn't very wise..As far as your happiness goes..It's like anything else..You can't have everything you want, and depression is normally a chemical imbalance, that causes it..Unless you have had something traumatic happen to you..I suggest you get back on it and just deal with this "Fake" happiness that you think you're feeling,or you can just suffer with the depression..Nobody can make that choice but you!!!! However keep in mind that there are consequences, and some of them can be pretty severe.... |

My wife was on Prozac & other Anti deppressants for a period of time. This is good advice. Give it some real consideration, as I would not lie to you. Your state of depression is directly linked to who you see yourself to be. If you feel useless,....wahlah!,....you become useless. Likewise,....If you feel that noone loves you,....you will become a person that noone wants to love. Every person indirectly affects how others see him/her by the way they act. Feeling bad about yourself tends to make others percieve you as bad. You have to get your chin up. You were born with the same qualities and rights as anyone else. You have the right to be happy. So start with being happy about yourself. You are as good as anyone else. You are as attractive as anyone else. You are as strong mentally as anyone else. Allowing yourself to be pulled down by life will pull your life down. We call it depression. What it really means is not being happy with who you are. So,.....what are you waiting on? Do what you feel is right. make life better for yourself. Buy yourself something great today, and treat yourself like royalty. After all,....you deserve it. You don't need Prozac or any other medicine. You simply need to learn how to love, appreciate, & accept you for the wonderful person that you really are. Highspeed. |

Stay on your meds! Your body has adjusted to taking them and just dropping off them can lead to very bad consequences (like suicide). If you are unhappy with your current medication, talk to your doctor and see if they can recommend a different medication or if you can formulate a plan to get off of meds eventually. From what I know, people with simple depression don't need to stay on medication indefinitely. |

and if fake happiness is the worst side-effect, by glad of it. My best friend is on medication for bi-polar disorder and she is on a slew of medications that have some really nasty side-effects-- like extremely dry-skin and constant stomach cramping and weight gain (she gained 80 pounds!). |

Yeah, you should really seek the counsel of your doctor. No one here is qualified to give you advice on medication. It's against the law. Unless we have any M.D.s here, I would say you need to talk to yours. People can only share their stories with you here, but when it comes to your health, you shouldn't listen to anyone but your doc. Mollycat is right--you need to stay on your meds. If you take them infrequently, you throw your whole body-chemistry off-balance, which can do serious damage. |

Well, one thing you shouldn't do is to not take it on a regular basis. You should tell your mother you don't like the way it makes you feel. You can tell your doctor you want to try something else, something less strong, or nothing at all. There are natural ways to make yourself happier...exercise, sports, art and counseling. Good luck to you. |
