Should Bush Be Re-Elected?

  Author:  49539  Category:(Debate) Created:(6/4/2004 7:42:00 PM)
This post has been Viewed (1956 times)

I'm on my school's newspaper called The Spokesman and I decided to write this for the opinion section.

The 2004 presidental elections are slowly rolling our way and in this time of war and destruction, America needs someone who is qualified for the position of being president.

"Anybody but Bush in 2004!" (the message seen on popular anti-Bush buttons) is correct. I find those buttons humorous not only because I am in agreement with them, but the fact that they scream "truth!" George W. Bush should not be re-elected because of his past failures in office and his conservative policies.

Bush has failed to be decent politician. Last year, protesers filled the streets with their anti-war ideals. They even rallied in front of the White House with their picket signs, but Bush still refused to put his guard down and listen to those opposed to him.

If you visit <www.google.com> and type in "miserable failure" you will find a link to Bush's biography.

Apparently I'm not the only one who feels our president has shamefully let America down.

With the US troops in Iraq for a year now, the American deficit has sky-rocketed. Last year's deficit was $375 billion and it is estimated at $400 billion-plus for this year. The United States has already spent around $75 billion to supply our soldiers with food and weapons while they're on the other side of the world, but Bush is still asking for $25 billion more.

The problem with these actions is that there are still thousands of people starving in our own country. How many mouths could America have fed with $100 billion? Possibly thousands. The American government needs to stop patrolling the world when the issues we should address first are our own national issues and troubles.

Bush's decision on the gay marriage ban has proven his narrow-mindedness to the American public. He wants to gain popularity among the big religious leaders but his conservative beliefs also factor into his standings.

Our government is seperated by Christian ideals. If we allow the denial of marriage to gay couples because of religious beliefs, segregation of church and state is no longer a valid statement. Religion should not dictate our government. This means we have barely progressed over the past 200 years.

Bush is slowly changing our country with every decision he makes. If we continue to support him as our president, our freedoms will be limited more than they ever have. In order to prevent this, we should encourage adults to participate in the upcoming election.

This is the time to share your opinions and thoughts. Rant on.

Date: 6/4/2004 7:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 37101    *sigh* You can't please everyone, especially with so many people in the United States. But all I can say is - I'm not old enough to vote but I will support George Bush and it is his job to change our country with every decision he makes. And, he has never acted alone. There were always supporters behind what he did, therefore he cannot solely be blamed for everything that he has done that is supposedly bad for the United States. But at 15, my voice is silent in this debate. -
Date: 6/4/2004 7:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49539    I figure, if I can't vote I will voice myself through the press.
Date: 6/4/2004 7:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49539    I'm also 15.
Date: 6/4/2004 7:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 55386    I ain't old enough to vote, and I'm not American...but if I was....I wouldn't re-elect him....Pfft....I don't like him....There's just something about him....Sinister...ish...lol.
Date: 6/4/2004 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 27046    He has my vote.
Date: 6/4/2004 8:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49539    why?
Date: 6/4/2004 8:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 50758    BUSH RULES! I will be voteing for him! Kerry is scarey!
Date: 6/4/2004 8:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 10754    Bush will NOT have my vote.
Date: 6/4/2004 8:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    I disagree with it, but you have the right to your opinion.
Date: 6/4/2004 8:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    I don't have opinions. They're bad for business.
Date: 6/4/2004 9:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    That "miserable failure" thing on Google is a trick. It's called "Googlebombing." A person finds an uncommon phrase, gets a bunch of websites to link to his using that phrase (they can even be his own), and the search engine will think that with so many links, the site must be important, so it throws the site to the top of the list. Therefore, that site at the top of "miserable failure" is simply one where the owner searched around for people (or used his own other sites, or both) to link to his top site, and voila. His becomes number one. It's a trick, and the first googlebomb was actually a practical joke. Several webmasters got together and linked to an unsuspecting site owner with "talentless hack." That guy's site shot to the top of the list for those keywords.
Date: 6/5/2004 12:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 15070    I have not decided who to vote for yet....
Date: 6/5/2004 12:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 51530    I don't even think there is a question if he will, the question is by how much. I believe a landslide. Kerry will be luck to pull anything outside of the North east and California
Date: 6/5/2004 5:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    Nope no vote for Bush. He likened the Iraq war to WWII and that is a shameful thing to say in front of veterans. I've come to the conclusion that there are no 2 main parties... they are 2 branches of the same tree.
Date: 6/5/2004 5:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 50249    I agree with Smooth Criminal here as well as others that support George W. Bush. I think the man is a decent person, necessary trait to President of the USA. He is trying to bring back good old fashion values and morals to this country. And about the war in Iraq, no one likes war, even Bush doesn't like the war, but like sometimes, it is necessary. Why people here in the USA critizice Bush and don't support him, when he is our President, the President of OUR country? Accussing Bush of the war but people forget about 9/11 and what happened with so many terrorist attacks. All I can say is that I WILL VOTE FOR BUSH!!!!!!!!!
Date: 6/5/2004 5:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 36967    Bush will definitely do a better job of protecting our rights than John Kerry. If John Kerry gets elected, then say good bye to our freedoms.
Date: 6/5/2004 5:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 36967    AS far as the war goes, we will fight these people, it was inediable. But either we fight them over in the Middle East, or we fight them on American Soil. There is no other way around it. What would you choose, fight them over there or over here. Think about that.
Date: 6/5/2004 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 19220    I'm not voting this year for the main reason I don't find either one to be worthy.
Date: 6/5/2004 10:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 19220    I disagree Drk...Bush is the one who is taking freedom away
Date: 6/5/2004 11:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    i don't really have a problem with him. i think he is doing a fine job. i also didn't have a problem with clinton but i think if 911 had happened while clinton was is office, he would not have done anything about it. then everybody would be yelling that we should go to war. no president can please everybody.
Date: 6/5/2004 11:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    I have lived life for a 50 years and I have NEVER seen so many people HURT by a political ruling party as I have seen with Bush. I will not only NOT vote for him, I will politic on every street corner to make people AWARE of the things we seem to 'forget' ... Chances are there will be a 'finding' of Bin Laden right before election (political move for re-election) and other things to watch out for... Grandstanding is NOT a way to run a country. I do not and NEVER have liked the fact that our 'illustrious' president and his family has has very strong friendship and political ties with the Bin Laden's and Saddam... strong ties, those keep getting covered up with other things so the American people dont think about it, the "mind-set" here is that people ONLY think of what is at hand... so I can see a LOT of grandstanding by Mr. Bush between now and election... Grandstanding that he will NOT back up after elections, as proven with this term of office. The man is dangerous, he has too many TIES with what we think of as 'terrorism'...
Date: 6/5/2004 11:43:00 AM  ( Admin-DNL )   I personally am voting for Kerry because I like him more. this is the first year I can vote, yay! lol
Date: 6/5/2004 12:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    Can you elaborate on your comments Gail?
Date: 6/5/2004 1:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 62383    The whole war lie thing bothered me, and I dont think he does a good job. Its kind of earie a lot of people think he is the "anti-christ" also. I dont really care who is in office, anyone but him. Were trading freedom for security and im really not scared enough to lose my rights, I dont know how all of you feel, but some bad things could happen soon. I am not anti goverment at all, but a lot of this stuff has gotten out of hand. If we get attacked we get attacked, but id rather enjoy not being watched every second to see if im a terrorist. They can search your home now without prob cause. I mean, whats going on guys?
Got Mike?

Date: 6/5/2004 1:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    the man didn't have my vote the first time around and he certainly won't get it now.
Date: 6/5/2004 1:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 62383    I also think there is a reason 9/11 didnt happen WHILE Clinton was in office. Clinton Lied about sexual relations, which I think most guys prob would. Bush has lied about weapons, and our troops have died. I have friends over there.... from his lie.
Got Mike?

Date: 6/5/2004 2:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    Bush doesn't have my vote this election, same as he didn't last election. *hugs*
Date: 6/5/2004 9:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Nope, I don't agree. I think Bush is a great president, he just elected at a bad time. He came in after Clinton who just sat on his DUFF and did nothing for 8 yrs. Our country was already in a recession when Bush took office. Things were on the downslide already. Bush is a victim of bad luck. It's not his fault 9-11 happened, there was a voting problem along with all the other crap he's had to deal with. I'll be voting to re-elect him in November.
Date: 6/5/2004 11:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    Since you seem intelligent enough to draw your own conclusions, I will offer you some thoughts for consideration. The momentum for removing the President is not coming from those with a positive message for America. [Eventually, the Ford dealer has to move beyond criticizing Chevys and tell the public why Fords are the right choice. I hear an overwhelming number of opinions why the President is wrong, but not many about why Senator Kerry is right. Surely, there must be a better campaign strategy for the Senator than that.] You say the President has failed to be a "decent politician." Please define or give an example of a decent politician. Your information on the deficit is correct; your interpretation of it is not. Don't look at the deficit as an absolute value; view it as a percentage of the Gross Domestic Product [GDP]. I think you'll find that it compares with other years and other administrations. In a growing economy such as ours, $400 billion is not much. Your comment about the possible thousands of starving people in America indicates you think the $100 billion should be given to them. Is this true? The President's decision on gay marriage may mean he is narrow-minded; I've never met anyone that accomplished anything who wasn't. If everything is OK, depending on someone's point of view, and no one can ever act on their belief that some behaviors are wrong, for fear of offending another whose views are also strong, then this country will stagnate as we rot from the inside. You are a good writer; continue to use your talent for causes you feel passionate about.
Date: 6/5/2004 11:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 62752    Bush lol all i have to say is Somewhere in texas a villiage is missing its idiot, lol i think bush is the biggest moron on the planet, i will not vote for bush or kerry, i will never vote for bush i never did, i voted for gore and i think it proved no matter who u vote for nothing comes out right anyway, bush didnt win the first run, he cheated i lived in FL my whole life and ppl who live there know that Jeb his brother had something to do with that, if u vote for bush u have money and u dont have how our world is falling apart around us, bush was the biggest mistake america ever made, so in my opinion NO TO BUSH ~*KristenKay*~
Date: 6/5/2004 11:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 62752    This is to YOUCHOOSE, um not to offend u but, clinton was our best president ever, i speek from someone who didnt grow up with alot of money and clinton did alot for my mother who was a single mother raising two children, he provided daycare and many many things, i dont remember gas being 2.15 a gallon either and i dont remember clinton grabbing up saddam and then coming out and saying, oh wait we lied he had nothing come on, ppl watch CNN or something, bush is a tard, and he should be put out of office, me who has many family members in the service and they all think bush is a moron, he is fighting a war he cant win, there was no REASON to step into iraq, if it was ur father, brother, mother, child or family over there fighting a war because he couldnt say i have no clue where bin ladin is, he needed a scapgoat and u know it, ~*KristenKay*~
Date: 6/6/2004 12:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 15319    Should Bush be re-elected? That depends, do you want your rights and privacy utterly raped? If so, then sure!
Date: 6/6/2004 7:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 27046    If you are asking me why he has my vote, it's because I don't nitpick through all the rumor and innuendo to falter the man as a "bad president" for this that and the other thing. I support the war and the efforts in Iraq and I don't feel that Kerry can continue on and support that effort properly.
Date: 6/6/2004 11:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 28190    That should have said: Bush doesn't have my vote this election, same as I WASN't for him last election. <------ Thanks to Az for pointing this out lmao.. sorry bout that guys. *hugs*
Date: 6/6/2004 12:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Author, You stated "Bush's decision on the gay marriage ban has proven his narrow-mindedness to the American public." I do not believe that he has proven his narrow-mindedness in that he is against gay marriages. Not all who are against gay marriages are narrow-minded.
Date: 6/6/2004 12:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    i really don't think Bush should be re-elected. his already put our country in so much turmoil, i think, John Kerry would be a great president. i'm voting for him!
Date: 6/6/2004 4:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 19613    From a european's perspective i can tell you that Bush has made a very bad impression on people over here. Most people outside the US don't trust his motives or his competance. I think an important aspect of the man leading the most powerful country in the world, should be whether or not he has the respect of the people outside the US whose lives will be affected by him. Just another angle to consider.
Date: 6/6/2004 5:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    No to Bush. I saw Kerry on Meet the Press and was impressed with his answers. He didn't seem like a waffler to me at all, but he came off as honest and forthright.
Date: 6/7/2004 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 62624    Between Bush and Kerry, I choose Bush. However, I think that if there were someone better to run against him, he would loose the election. Kimberley
