Sock puppets a good idea. If you can get clean baby food jars, you can paint them and make shakers with dried rice and beans. You can make picture frames with popsicle sticks and paint them. I'll think of some more and message you. |

sock puppets? get real. that's not good for 5 year olds. what you need is some finger paint and glitter and glue! i'm kidding. i haven't had a 5 year old in 15 years and i can't remember. mine probably played with knives and guns in the middle of the road! |

lol @ mama bug!! my mother used to teach the 4,5, and 6 year olds at my church. she used to do all sorts of crafts with them. you can take sticky felt (there is a sticky side) and you get different colors and the teacher cuts out different shapes ahead of time. then you put an example on the wall or board and let the kids make their own. you can make pictures of jonah or noah or jesus or whatever. just let it pertain to your lesson. and surprisingly enough, even the 4 year olds caught on fast. another is some good old fashion glue and glitter. put the glue on the paper for them, then let them sprinkle the glitz. it's fun and keeps them stoked. oh, and snack time is a big time occupier. hope i helped. peace n luv and good luck!!

oh, another thing, you can even use the good old kids crafts that dont really pertain to biblical times, just pertain it to the lesson. you could make noodle neclaces and say they were like king herrod's neclaces or something like that. and model magic clay is awesome. they could make a mini pot like they used to use back when. p&l |

play doh... there's so many different types that you can make yourself. Painting is always a favorite activity-- I suggest tempra and/or watercolor for easy (or easier, anyway!) clean up. Get a scrap box together- put toilet paper and paper towel tubes, pringles cans, cleaned out cardboard milk cartons, fabric, yarn and paper scraps, pop bottle caps, yogurt, butter and cool whip containers, screw on lids, plastic jars ... and anything else that you might consider throwing away... in it. Kids love to make their own creations out of this kind of stuff paper mache is usually well received, but can get very messy. Large roll paper, markers and crayons... combined with those scrap box things can easily be turned into lifesize self portraits that can be worked on over the course of several weeks. Have her take a walk through the children's crafts section at Michael's... they have tons of books with a variety of activities for different age groups ;o) |

Back issues of Highlights magazines will have lots of ideas for her. Also tell her to check out the "Teacher's" section at her local bookstore for books on children's education. |
