Penny has lifted my spirits so many times since we've been at USM. When I was down after my parents passed away, Penny consoled me and made me rise above. I've missed Penny and I'm so sorry that she is so ill. Please give her my love and tell her how much she's missed. Penny has been here for so many of us who have been suffering through illness of family members and she sent me many caring words of hope during my brothers' surgery for his cancer. She's always been someone who took the time, just to care. I work with Diabetic patients and chose twelve years ago to make it "my field", it became personal, the devastation that comes from Diabetes, and I've tried to learn all I can and support my patients, giving back what I've learned and hoping that here and there I helped someone with their battle. And Diabetes is a battle that is lived with every day, a struggle to stay healthy. My thoughts will be with her, please tell her I'm thinking of her, and surely hope she will be doing better soon.  |

I hope she has a good Endocrinololist. The high blood pressure must be controlled to protect her kidneys. This is extremely important. With blood sugar levels so high and blood pressure, the kidneys become too over worked, high amounts of protein in the urine cause kidney disease. Make sure she has a good Endo Doctor. |

Also make sure they are checking her Microalbumin level in her urine regularly. Preventing kidney disease and dialysis is most important when blood sugar levels and blood pressure remain uncontrolled. We are trained to be very aggressive in this and I stress this with all my patients more tahn anything. Our major goal is to keep Diabetic patients healthy and off dialysis, avoid the possibility of amputations and loss of eyesight. Diabetes can be devastating and I know the battle Penny has very well. Give her my love. |
