Go with a high option ppo they cover more and have more in network dr.s. I don't know if they will cover the braces but the surgery they should with a precertification. Ask the agent if the braces are covered if so at what percentage and if not ask about getting a dental insurance that does. My current dental does not cover orthadontics. I hope this helps a little! -Sunni818 |

I dont think it would be good to tell them about any future medical needs you may have, they could turn you down or consider it a pre-existing condition and not cover it. Just talk to them like you are in perfect health but would like coverage. Ask about deductibles and whether you have to use certain doctors only or are free to choose who you like and what percentage they cover if you see a doctor that is not in thier network, but just remember that you are in perfect health!! |

Find one that will pay off on your pre-existing condition. Many will not and if so you're wasting your money. |

First off, ask them if their plan is an HMO. Many doctors are refusing to honor HMOs because they don't get paid (I heard of one doctor who was still waiting to get paid for an operation he did three years ago!). Sunni is right, PPOs are more expensive, but they offer the best coverage, so ask if they have one of those. Ask if they cover dental work, ask if they require a physical first. Good luck! |

Bcar--my orthodontist said I should get insurance before seeing the surgeon that would be looking at my jaws so maybe they wouldn't know it was a pre-existing condition. As I typed that i realize that common sense should tell me that I shouldn't be telling the insurance agent that I would be having surgery. lol |

If the surgery is already documented then you need to find out if it is covered but if it is something that was only discussed as an option I don't think it would be a pre exsisting condition. Insurance cos are tricky, Can upi call anonomosly (sorry can't spell) They are very weird on what they consider pre exsisting. My gall bladder was not either was my son's toncilectomy even though he always had strep and sleep apnea. You would think that would have been pre exsisting. -Sunni818 |

They can't turn you down if you are part of a group policy which most people are. If you're with Anthem/Blue Cross.....good luck with that.....they have some of the worst customer service people.......I work for UHC which is a huge health insurance company....ABC is a thorn in the side! |

well, whether your surgery's covered or no, it's generally a good idea to have health insurance, 'cause you never know when disaster is going to strike. Of course, your surgery may help you determine which insurance to go with. Most have pre-existing condition clauses (unless its through an employer) and I sort of wonder if yours situation doesn't count as preexisting because it was diagnosed by your dentist. I think as long as there is a record of it somewhere, it's preexisting, so you might want to check with your dentist's office. And, not everyone covers dental surgery, so that's another thing you should check into. And don't forget to ask about deductibles for surgery and doctors visits, etc. And while it would be easiest if you could just come out and tell your insurance agent what the situation is, I don't think it's a good idea. I have images of Homer Simpson trying to open an insurance policy when he finds out he needs heart surgery and wrestling with the insurance agent over the policy that he's trying to sign in the midst of a heart attack. Don't know if you watch the Simpsons, but yeah, that whas a funny one.... |
