Date: 5/3/2004 4:47:00 PM From Authorid: 37101 If the movie was not at least LOOSELY based on something true, the production companies would not be allowed to put the 'The following is based on a true story' caption in the movies. As far as how true 'The Amityville Horror' is, I'm unsure. I've never looked in it. - |
Date: 5/3/2004 4:59:00 PM From Authorid: 14780 I believe that some things did in fact happen but also it was "blew out of proportion" by the media when making the movie. It had to make big bucks ya know. |

Date: 5/3/2004 5:06:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 I have the links to George Lutz's discussion board, his former step-son Chris's discussion board, and a few others. You can talk TO the people who actually lived in the house. |
Date: 5/3/2004 5:07:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 the above link (g-rated) will take you to George Lutz's site & a few others. |
Date: 5/3/2004 5:10:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 As for myself? Despite my one-time admiration for people like the Warren's (www.warrens.net/), I dated a guy who live on the Long-Island Sound. He is in his 50's now & knew Ron DeFeo. He said the whole thing was a made-up story. It was made-up by the Lutz's & their Lawyer to get out of a house they could NOT afford. |

Date: 5/3/2004 7:02:00 PM From Authorid: 10030 The Amityville Horror House does exist. In fact, it was a few towns over from where I used to live. A murder took place, but the movie definatly blew things out of proportion. I don't know the details myself, but kids still talk about the place where I used to live (Long island, New York) |
Date: 5/3/2004 7:02:00 PM From Authorid: 49132 I think it did.My moms friends knows someone who lived down the street from the house. THey said they heard alot of weird things from the house, like lights always flickering and sounds. So I think it was real but that Hollywood really blows it out of proportion. |
Date: 5/3/2004 7:03:00 PM From Authorid: 10030 Heh, apparantly I've fallen for the urban legend. Thanks for that info, Spirit child. |
Date: 5/3/2004 7:24:00 PM From Authorid: 27046 I believe there was an actual murder that did take place in that house some years ago before the Lutz's moved in, but they used the whole haunting thing, concocted by their lawyer because they bit off more than they could chew financially. There is one site out there if you do a search that breaks down all the of things that were said and done that don't add up. That movie made a TON of money only because of that "based on a true story caption" though. |
Date: 5/3/2004 7:33:00 PM From Authorid: 62588 I think it's true. If the Lutz's were the only ones who lived in the house who had had weird things happen then it might of been a hoax, but there were three different families who lived there who were terrorized, the catholic church got involved (although not involved enough in my oppinion) and people who bought items at auction after the house was sold also had bad experiences. I wish I could remember the name of the boy who went to jail for murder.. I would try to see if I could get transcripts from his trial. |
Date: 5/3/2004 8:09:00 PM From Authorid: 62100 Ditto to what Spirit Child said, she told me a bout the site a while back and I visited as well...problem is the stepson was very vague..wouldn't really say anything in regards to the alleged haunting..just alot of really bad things about his stepdad and some vague Bible references and promises to "tell all"..guess he wants to make a movie of his own at some point... |
Date: 5/3/2004 8:28:00 PM From Authorid: 17081 Some of its true like the killing of the family members. When the second family moved in they realized they were having trouble paying their bills on the house so they made up stories about the house. There is a house in my town that kind of resembles the house. |
Date: 5/3/2004 9:17:00 PM From Authorid: 36901 Mfrompa is right. That guy did kill his siblings and parents, but the rest of it was a hoax. There are several websites that have info about it. I'll try to remember them and I'll come back and post. |

Date: 5/10/2004 10:42:00 PM From Authorid: 62236 I believe the movie was based on a true story 'to some extent'. A lot of the stuff that happended to the Lutz' family happened to me also. Just read my stories. Pretty spooky! |
Date: 6/22/2004 7:40:00 PM From Authorid: 24003 The haunting part was a hoax Im sure. The people who moved in after those people still live there and have never had any problems with the house. |
Date: 7/14/2004 1:25:00 PM From Authorid: 53157 I heard it was a hoax. |
