Well, I don't know when I started to. I know I still don't wear alot but I have been wearing more and I am in the 11th grade, 16yrs old. I do agree though, there are alot of younger kids these days wearin make-up and little hoochie momma clothing! I see alot with tons of makeup on, I think it is all up to the parent and how well there child behaves. |

Well I'm not a parent or a girl but I have 5 sisters 3 of which are now over 18 and I believe they weren't allowed real make up until 13 or 14 and yes the younger ones hated when the older ones got to wear it first while they weren't allowed to. ~~ |

I was not into makeup until I was 14,and I was full into it at that age,but when 15 rolled around I was lucky if I felt like wearing lipstick I think at her age a nice light colored gloss and a touch of eyeshadow should be fine |

I started wearing make-up when I was about 13-14 yrs old. I have an 11yr old who is allowed to wear light colors done nicely and not caked on to certain things i.e. pictures, church *sometimes* She doesn't wear it that often nor would I let her. |

I was 16 before my mother allowed me to wear make-up. I could always wear lipgloss and nail polish but the eyeshadow, cover-up, blush, lipstick, mascara and eyeliner thing wasn't allowed. I don't think it's being unreasonable at all and my daughter won't wear make-up until she is much older either. I see it as a start to a trend of looking a lot older than they really are. First it's the make-up like everyone else, then the clothes, then the dating etc at an age where it shouldn't even be a priority and more barbie doll playing should be done. LOL, I am serious when I say that because when I was 13 (which wasn't that long ago) you had your few that naturally turned the boys heads because they had matured puberty wise, started the make-up and trendy clothes thing and the rest of us stayed a bit girly, still played in the dirt, and still liked the barbie dolls. There aren't enough thirteen year olds like that left today. There is a movie called thirteen which is all about the subject of kids (aged 13) growing up too soon. I was horrified watching how fast it could possibly happen. It's a good movie to rent. |

I was 12 and in Grade 7 when I first *tried* wearing makeup. My friends all started wearing lipstick and I bought one too. I put it on at school and came home with it on and my parents absolutely freaked out on me! They yelled at me and told me I'm too young for it.
To be honest, at the time, I hated them for it because I couldn't understand why they didn't want me to look better and feel prettier when a lot of other girls were already wearing it too! I was so mad at them and would sometimes put it on at school and wipe it off before coming home. About a year later, they let me wear very natural shades so I was happy about that. By age 14, I regularly wore lipstick and powder and by age 16/17 I was also wearing eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara.
Anyway, I'm 22 years old now and what I'd suggest to you is to let her move from clear lipgloss to lightly tinted lipgloss or those very sheer lipsticks. It's still a step up without really wearing heavy make-up. Now I do kinda agree with what my parents did when I was 12. A 12 year old girl is still so innocent and doesn't need to worry about copying magazine models yet... |

I was around 12, my daughter is 12 and wears makeup. Alot of her little friends do as well, BUT as a parent that is something you need to decide yourself. What you think about her age, maturity and so forth. Just because one girl is ready to wear makeup doesnt mean another the same age is. |

*shrugs, since my little sister started getting into my makeup my parents gave her her own set, (she's turning 6 next month, and it's not that big a deal, all the little munchkins are going to school with painted nails and what not, my parents never really had any issue at all with my wearing makeup, i don't wear a whole lot anyways (that would cut into time that i don't have, for me it's wakeup haul rear into the shower, find clean clothes, and head out the door, let my hair do whatever, SOMETIMES i even brush it, but not usually, for some reason i can get by with taht) |

I was about 12-13 when I started wearing makeup. In my opinion, she isn't too young for it, just as long as she doesnt go overboard with it. I dont think a light coloured eye shadow, and maybe a frosty lipstick will do any harm . |

12/13 for lipgloss, but I never really started wearing makeup until I was 16-- but that was a personal decision. I don't think you're being strict. Perhaps consider showing your daughter how to properly apply makeup and how 'less is more.' I've noticed that the younger girls are who wear makeup, the more they wear and the worse it looks. In fact, a lot of my friends, who are seniors, don't wear any makeup at all. And when they do, it's on a whim. Meanwhile, I see some freshman girls who put on layers and everyone notices-- and snickers. Guys included. |

I am 17 almost 18, I have worn make up once in my life and that was last Friday for Senior Prom. I have never really wanted to wear make up, but the rule in my house was no make up (except lip gloss and nail polish) until you are 16. My sister is 15 and want to wear make up and my parents won't let her. |

hmmm, think i dinged around w/the stuff at 13, 'cause my 8th grade pic has me in blue eyeshadow; i thought the shadow was supposed to match your clothes, heh heh...for the longest time i never quite got the hang of makeup tho, looking like either cleopatra or a bigger dork than normal, & by 16 i think i was just down to eyeliner. looking good doesn't have to mean hauling out the chisel to wash your face off. cheers, |

I was 15 before I was allowed to wear makeup, my dad was stricter about it than my mom though..and I wasn't real good at applying it right away, so make sure you give her some good tips and/or help at first. My daughter is 12 and she hasn't really pushed the question yet, so far she is happy experimenting at home. She did come home last week with some light blue eyeshadow on and I asked where she got it and she told me she used a friend's, so I suppose the girls will get it somehow if we don't let them. I did tell her she shouldn't use someone elses cosmetics cause she could get conjunctivitis or something..and she agreed not to. I really don't know, I guess when she gets to be 13 I might let her wear some light makeup.. |

My mom never let me wear make-up during highschool. Hmm..then again, I never really tested it. I wanted to wear it more when I was 12,13, and 14. After that, I didn't really care. Too many girls wear way too much. Besides, I've been told I don't need it many times. My friend started wearing it when she was 12 or so. She won't leave the house without it...and I think it's just ruining her complexion. |

I started when I was 13, just this light shimmery eyeshadow, then a little later I wore light eyeshadow and mascara, that was when my mom started showing me what she used to use, how to use it etc, she taught me to use to it bring out certain features. I never did it to look older, right now, at 16, I just wear shimmery eyeshadow, this brown eyeliner that I line my top lashes with, mascara and lip gloss, however she always let me wear whatever nail polish I wanted, she said she never really sees anything wrong with nail polish.. I think it mainly depends on the girl, my mother told me that she lets me do alot of things that she wouldn't let a normal teen do mainly because I act mature, I'm responsible, I take responsibility for what I do, and that I don't act like an average teenage brat LoL. I think it should be based on how mature she is, and if she wants to wear it for the right reasons. |

My mom started letting me wear makeup around 11, I think if your daughter wants to wear makeup you should let her, but you should teach her how to do it and set limits as to how much she can and cant wear so that she doesnt end up looking like a clown :P Good luck! |
