Your job/career

I was just wondering how you guys felt about your job. Is it what you thought you would be doing? Do you love/hate it? If you could go back to school, what would you go for?

I can't decide what I want to do. I am in finance and I like it alot and am really good at it, but I can't imagine being in a cube farm for the next 40 years. I want to go back to school but can't decide if I want to go for Business Management or Nursing (I was a pre-med major the first time around in college).

We work for about 50 years of our lives, I think we should do something welove, not dread to get up in the morning to go to.

I was just wondering if other people felt the way I do. -Sunni818

Date: 5/3/2004 12:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I hate my job. I am a salesclerk. But I am also in college, so I won't be doing this forever. My major is criminology, and I'd love to go to graduate school and eventually teach and do research, or counsel offenders.

Date: 5/3/2004 12:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    Haven't really decided yet...I was really interested in DEA buuut my vision in my left eye doesn't meet their standards...and everyone around me wouldn't let me do that anyhow so beats me.
Date: 5/3/2004 12:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 53054    Well in the future i want to work with teens in trouble...and i have nearly always wanted to do this or be a teacher...which is working with other people...so i think i would be happy doing this...but who knows!
Date: 5/3/2004 12:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62675    That stinks about the DEA Becky! But,you'll find something you love to do! -Sunni818
Date: 5/3/2004 1:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62675    Helping people is always good Lil Leppy! I think that is what I want to do too (when I grow up - if I ever do!!) -Sunni818
Date: 5/3/2004 1:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 62625    I wanted to be a Navy pilot, but I have no depth perception (a no no for flying). I've done so many different jobs since then, but the only one I really liked was working as a Contrator for the Military and getting to travel all over the world. I don't like my current job, but jobs are scarce for what I do (computer software development and support).
Date: 5/3/2004 1:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 33573    I am still in the process of looking for a job! I gotta get more apps.
Date: 5/3/2004 3:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 30747    Yep I feel that way too. I'm an accountant and I don't like it at all. I mean..it pays the bills and I guess I'm good at it but if I had really thought about it I would have went into a more creative field. Business bores the heck out of me. But I went for the $$$$$. If I could go back to school it would be in the horticulture field. I want to grow things and make pretty arrangements.
Date: 5/3/2004 3:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 38849    Well I'd let Becky do it, but hey... I am not everyone either! Me computer software development, and hey maybe I'll retire before I even get started. DJR
Date: 5/3/2004 3:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    I am currently workin in security while going back to school. I left a job with the federal government in 2001 that I had held since 1987, just short of 15 years. I had assumed that I would hold it until retirement. I was wrong. I held a position that I came to hate then spent 3 years fighting my way into another job. Within 2 years of my new job, it was being outsourced. I did not have the required Masters degree to be a contractor so I faced either going back my my old hated job or quitting. I quit and have been in free fall ever since.
Date: 5/3/2004 3:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 12806    I am a submarine pilot for the oil and gas exploration field. I love my job most of the time because I get to see lots of interesting things and meet interesting people. The part of my job that really bites is the fact that I have to be away from home for long periods of time. Right now, I am about 200 mi off the coast of Campeche Bay, Mexico, that's off the Yucatan Peninsula. Although I spend a lot of time away from home, I spend an equal amount of time AT home. So I guess it kind of evens out...... Hopefully, I will soon get to play music for a living, as soon as my CD is done........
Date: 5/3/2004 7:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 36185    Well, I left a catering job to go back to school. I am now studying to become an addictions coucellor and I absolutely love it!!! I'd love to work with teens, though I would work with anyone...I love to help people, so I guess it doesn't really matter who I work with, as long as i can help change someones life in a positive way! Cool post!
