When I was younger, I use to hang out with my friend Amber. We use to do all kinds of fun things together that other girls wouldn't be doing, like digging through the waterfilled ditch in front of her house looking for crawfish and tadpoles. There was also a tire that was made into a swing tied from the tall oak tree out front. She loved that swing, we would take turns pushing eachother. We would go swimming and flirt with the guy next door. We were always together along with some other childhood friends that we had. I remember clearly the day that her gymnastics swing broke while I was on it and had me to the ground, knocking the wind out of me. I had tears in my eyes, while she called for her father. She laughed so hard at me that she had tears in her eyes, but in the end, she made me laugh about it. Well, time came to pass that we grew up into teenagers. She wasn't as tom-boyish as she use to be. She had a boyfriend and started wearing makeup. She didn't need make-up though. She had the perfect face and skin. We would hang out with our friends and boyfriends and sometimes get into trouble and pick on eachothers' braces. lol It was one..and a couple of "them days" that we all have. But them days for Amber were cut short because of a horrible car accident. Her boyfriend (and one of my good friends) were drinking and driving. I remember getting a phone call from my bestfriend Alicia early one morning. "Ambers dead," she said with the sound of pain comming from her voice. Them two words cut my heart in half. And her boyfriend lay in a hospital bed while she layed in a casket. The funeral was a hard day for my friends and I and most of all, for her family. A few days after the funeral, we had to return to school a friend short. It was horrible. The school felt empty and not the same without Amber. The school set up a therapy meet for our English class, one of the classes that she attended with me and other friends. We set the classroom in a circle and talked about the good days when she was around. I remember one girl, comming over to sit in between my friend Holly and I. The desk that she was about to sit in, belonged to Amber. My friend guarded that desk with tears in her eyes. We didn't want anyone near it. It was HER desk. So the teacher asked the girl to sit some place else and we left that desk empty for days to come. Amber was the brightest girl that I ever knew. Everyone loved her. She made everyone laugh. The week before she passed away, this poem was read in our english class. Don't ever take anyone for granted. Amber will be truly missed and will always remain in our hearts. We miss you Amber Rose.:(
"If Tomorrow Never Comes"
If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day to say our "I love you's", And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget,
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight..
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear, Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear,
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or "it's okay". And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.
