Do you really care if your TVshows/movies actor does drugs/sex/whatever?...............B. Monkey

I am almost finished with this semester! I don't have much left to do, but I had to write this. I don't watch '7th Heaven', never have seen an episode, but I'm aware of what the show is and what it's about. Well I read from my daily email from E! that actor Jeremy London from the show in early April was arrested for possession of marijuana amongst other things.

Well I clicked on the link for the whole story and I read to see that the fans/viewers want him off the show! It said that he was playing a reverend's assistant. Do you really think that an actor's outside life is that important to a show? I remember once hearing about Jessica Biel posing topless for a magazine and she had to pay the piper (umm Aaron Spelling) for that. Some people when they take on acting jobs are taking it just to get a job, so if Biel doesn't want to be perceived as that character for her whole entire life I can almost get why she did that.

So my debate is, Is it that important what the actors do in their private lives? Do you feel that London should be kicked off the show? I don't!

Date: 4/27/2004 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 43706    I don't think it really matters what actors do when they're not acting. I mean that's what they're paid to do, pretend to be someone they're not. As long as the actor isn't telling their fans to 'do drugs' or attack little old ladies I think it's their own buisness what they do in their private (or not so private with the media sneaking around) lives.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 4887    Is he Michael London's son? And to answer your question... I don't think alot of the actors or actresses are what many of us would like them to be. I think they will do just about anything for publicity.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    tough one. i think, if it is affecting his ability to do his job (act), then, yes, he should be kicked off. if it isn't affecting their work, then let them have a private life
Date: 4/27/2004 4:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    I agree Midnight Magic
Date: 4/27/2004 4:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    No Dina, but he does have an identical twin brother! His name is Jason. I believe the same too, but I'm sure some are genuine, but some are probably not what their image perceives
Date: 4/27/2004 4:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    Interesting. I never heard of that. Guess I'd have to know what all it was he was arrested for to form an opinion. (IE did he have just a very small amount...or a bag full?) I do not however feel that celebs should be treated differently than any common joe...so if it was something severe enough to put the 'common joe' in jail or enough to be fired...then yes I feel he should be repremanded.....Man that's such a bummer to cause I'm a 7th heaven freak..
Date: 4/27/2004 4:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 53054    i really doesnt think it matter...if it is affecting his job then maybe, but if not then he should be treated like any other person and given a little respect in the matter....
Date: 4/27/2004 4:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Cage, I really like Robert Downey Jr., that's the best example!, but in his drug hey-day if it was affecting the work, then yeah they should go.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Here's a link for the story, http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,13963,00.html It was less than an ounce. And I agree if it is something that someone else in a regular job would get fired then they should get fired, I didn't see it that way at all, that's a good arguement.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:50:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Gazza, it seems to me to be really minor, it was less than an ounce, but if he were a bus driver or something like that I wouldn't want him to drive my bus, but if he had got cleaned up and it was proven via drug tests, then sure he could drive my bus
Date: 4/27/2004 4:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    Personal life is personl life period. I have argued myself hoarse and blue in the face over this. What a person does inhis or her own life is their business yeas if it is against the law if caught the should face the legal consquences. But it has nothing at all to do with the roles they play. I have an on going battle with some of the people at NPR and Fox news about this issue
Date: 4/27/2004 4:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    all i can think is: gee wow, they're actually human too.. go figure! i don't much care what they do in their private life.. as long as they're good at their job.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    I was just thinking back to the Pee Wee Herman, I guess the best way to put it is, 'Celebrity Oops', I forgot how old I was, but all I could think about is, I want Pee Wee back! I don't care what he did, he didn't hurt me.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Me too Emi, the only thing I'd think differently about is what Victor Salva did, but that's the only thing I think differently on. He's a director that molested young boys and got away with it.
Date: 4/27/2004 4:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Mrs. Strider this exact one, London? Wow. Working for NPR must be neat, I listen to that on occasion.
Date: 4/27/2004 5:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    I had recently joined a comitte to stop stuff like what is happening to Jeremy London This is the first active case I have been part of I have been emailing media outlets and such about the fact that a role is a role and the person playing it is an actor not the actual person in said role nor does he or sheas the case may be claim to be. They are only doing a job and as long as their actions do not adversly and directly effect their work petitons like thes should be consider personal attacks and not worthy of being promoted or printed
Date: 4/27/2004 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hello, B.Monkey If I hear or read about them doing drugs, or some other kind of outrageous behavior, then more than likely the stigma will remain and every time that I see them performing, I'll think.."Oh yeah...I know about that one!"...Not that it would really bother me, but it'd be hard not to remember. (if that makes any sense)..hehe..Write on......Oh, the question...hehe...I think if he could still do a good job on the show, then "No" he shouldn't be kicked-off. But if he gets busted for heroin next week, then "yes," he's got a problem and should be given a time out..hehe..Oh Lordy..
Date: 4/27/2004 5:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    All I could think was, that he is doing a job, I don't think that someone is going to do wrong just because the actor did. And this is something that isn't right. EVERYTHING they do is put to print, I feel if I had a drug violation the other day then they should paste my mug somewhere too, it's not fair. I don't even pretend to know anything about these people's personal lives, and you know something I shouldn't know anything about their lives, some things should be private and as long as he is not hurting anyone he should be able to continue to portray his character
Date: 4/27/2004 5:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Hey Kronk! I miss seeing all these great USM'ers school has been whupping my behind! But summer break is very soon! Next week as a matter of fact! I think the same too, I think I remember that person is the one that did that! But I think about the performance more though.
Date: 4/27/2004 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 54968    I really don't care if actors do that. They're only human and make mistakes too.
Date: 4/27/2004 5:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Sporti Angel I wonder if all the hoopla is just because it's supposed to be a wholesome family religious show or something
Date: 4/27/2004 5:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    But of course Monkey Another case of people believeing an actor or actress should actually be the "person" they play. How sad. People need to learn to understand the difference between the actor and the role he plays.... We can't expect a person to cahnge their life based on the roles they chose to play
Date: 4/27/2004 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 54968    Very good point you have there, Mrs. Strider!!
Date: 4/27/2004 5:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    Good points as always Mrs. Strider.
Date: 4/27/2004 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 58334    I don't really care, but it's interesting to hear what's going on.
Date: 4/27/2004 6:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 48241    I've never watched that show cause I don't gots a satalite. and I think the actors personal life is the audiances business. they should pay more attenton to the show, his character. not his personal life. I mean doesn't he want privacy?

lilcutie8
Date: 4/27/2004 6:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 48241    woops! I mean isn't the audiences business LOL

lilcutie8
Date: 4/27/2004 8:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    lil cutie I do stuff like that all the time! :0), Hey Nimi!
Date: 4/27/2004 8:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 11348    I really don't think it should affect the show for the most part. They are not their charactors. If they were it wouldn't be called acting.
Date: 4/27/2004 8:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 13897    well, personally, i am disgusted with the amount of nonsense publicity surrounding the media.. so what if a guy likes to smoke pot.. does that make him a worse actor? also, people NEED to understand the difference between TV and reality. TV is not real!!!
Date: 4/27/2004 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 51635    No, I don't think he should loose his job over it unless he goes to jail or it was in his contract...but if they do get rid of him they can always give his job to his brother...
Date: 4/28/2004 8:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 23731    what they do on thier own time is none of my buisness. i may not like that they do drugs but who am i to say they cant. its their life they will ruin it the way they want to.
Date: 4/28/2004 9:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    i could care less what they do. it's really none of my business. it's not like they are playing the person they really are. it's called acting and i think people shouldn't want the guy off the show because of what he did in his personal life. if that's the way things go then i should be fired for playing on the internet at work! SHHHHH!
Date: 4/28/2004 5:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    How they behave in real life doesn't really reflect on how much I assess their acting ability. For example, I think Russell Crowe is a fantastic actor, but as a person he sort of a jack...well you can finish that one. In other words, it does affect how I see them as an individual.
Date: 4/28/2004 7:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I think that their personal life away from the screen/stage is their own business, the trouble is the media tries to make it everyones business by printing what they do away from their roles, I must admit that I have been guilty also of looking at an actor or actress in a much different light after reading of drug abuse or whatever seems to be against the role they portray, but it doesn't deter me from watching any show or movie or whatever they are in...we are after all only human and will continue to make humanly mistakes in our lives ...good post Ginny....hugs
Date: 4/29/2004 11:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 62060    Actors/actresses are only worthwhile if they attract audiences. It's a job, plain and simple. The show is on for the entertainment of the audience. If someone you didnt like was on a TV programme, you'd want them off, taking it as your right as a viewer. IMO if enough of the audience want him gone, he should go, and if not, just ignore it.
Date: 4/30/2004 5:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    No! I don't care a hoot what they do as long as they don't do things that harm ME. It is their life that they choose to destroy or waste. I can only be concerned with my own life and my own attitudes.
Date: 4/30/2004 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    just treat him like the average citizen, who cares what they are like on screen but dont give em a break cause they are famous
Date: 4/30/2004 8:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 57232    thanks for your replies everybody, I think we pretty much have the same opinion.
