Are the republicans just deplorable now, after what they did to Kerry?--r1

Bush totally had my vote this year. I didn't see any big difference between him and Kerry. Nothing worth changing presidents over. But after this week, I have changed my mind!

This week the Republican party started attacking Kerry because he "might" have done bad stuff with his war medals. He really wasn't pro-Vietnam war at the time, and he may have done stuff to his medals, as a means of protesting the war. Apparently the Republicans don't like this, and they are using it as political fodder to make Kerry look unpatriotic and unAmerican, and almost as bad as a draft dodger.......

These Republican tactics are absolutely deplorable! How dare they even go after a man who was actually there! This is an American who WILLINGLY, went to a place where there were bullets flying! Real live ammo!!! Now I know this is no where as cool as flying fighter plains over Texas during a war, or as cool as wearing a flight suit after a war and showing up on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Trust me, I know what Kerry did is no way as cool as what Bush did. I mean Kerry was around live ammo, while Bush was flying over cow patties in texas. But still, Kerry actually went to WAR! WILLINGLY!

Does Kerry waffle on policies? YES! Does Kerry support pro-choice? YES! Does Kerry support raising taxes? Probably. But that is no where as near as deplorable as attacking someone who served their country willingly, and went to war!

So why am I not voting for Bush? Because he belongs to a party that thinks it's all right to smear a man who went to war for this country! They can smear all his bad policies all they want, but when they start attacking his patriotism, in the manner they are doing it. In light of the fact he actually WENT! All I can say is PITY on the Republicans. That is a deplorable party that can attack a man like Kerry in the way they are doing it. Kerry served our country with HONOR! He willingly saw combat. He EARNED medals. And to turn around and attack him and make him look unpatriotic...?!! Shame on the Republicans! How can anyone support a party that treats our veterans like that? I pray to God none of our Iraqi freedom soldiers ever go into politics and run against the republicans. The honor they show in serving our country will be smeared as bad as they are doing to Kerry. Frankly, no one who belongs to a party that treats a real war hero like this, they should in no way be elected to the highest office in our land. If Bush had any real honor he would leave the Republican party NOW!

Kerry waffles, just like any politician, but he served this country with honor. He went when many did not want to go. He wasn't in some non combat role like Gore or Bush. He was in the heat of action! Did he say controversial stuff when he came home after the war? YUP, he sure DID! Does that make him unpatriotic? Does that make him an American hater? Does that make him a Jane Fonda liberal? NO! Why? Cuz he actually WENT! Kerry would be unpatriotic if he hadn't of come home and spoke out! He saw what his fellow Americans were doing over there, and he spoke up! That is very honorable in my book! Did he deface his medals? Lets say that he did.. Let's say he took all his medals, and burried them in cow manure, and lit them on fire, then burned an American flag, and wiped a pigs butt with it. Does that make him unpatriotic? NO!!!!!!!! Why? Because he willingly saw combat, and dodged bullets. He isn't unpatriotic one bit! Protesting in any manner as a means to save Americans lives, is frankly the MOST patriotic thing one an do! If burning his ribbons and medals saved Americans lives, or was done with an intent to save lives, I say that's one patriotic man............

Date: 4/26/2004 9:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    I cant really debate this, because I havent done any research on it in awhile, and right now my mind is too exhausted. I haven't ever really backed Bush, and Kerry to me doesn't seem too much better.. So, for right now Im a fence rider.. lol *hugs*
Date: 4/26/2004 11:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    There are two sides to every story. The medals he threw away so dramatically were not his own. I hate that people are so at odds about this. I am not voting for either man, For the first time since I was 18 years old, I will not vote. I just can't do it this time.
Date: 4/26/2004 11:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    As far as I know, no one in the Bush camp is disputing Senator Kerry's patriotism. Nor is anyone "smearing" the Senator. If you remember, the Senator first mentioned his service in Vietnam. If he brought it up, he must be willing to have it discussed in the political arena. When someone mentions, as Spirit Child does, that Senator Kerry did not actually throw away his medals, though he said he did in 1971, accusations of "smear campaigning" abound. Senator Kerry's service in Vietnam is not relevant in this election, unless he wants us to ignore what he's accomplished in the thirty years since.
Date: 4/27/2004 3:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 46530    Frankly the amount of time and thought the americans put into the patriotism of their politicians baffles me. I don't care if my elected officials are "patriotic" or not, in fact that can be a hinderance in this multinational time, and international politics often calls for compromise, even if it leads to a lessening of national interests for a time. Did Bush go to war? I don't believe he did, but frankly who cares? The decisions that the elected people should be making are not all based on military strategem and other factors, such as their position on the environment, the middle east and global hunger need to be taken into more account than whether they shot some foreigner 30 years ago or not.
Date: 4/27/2004 6:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Kerry was a leader in the Vietnam Veterans against the war, He Did throw medals he said at the time were his over the White House fence, he did write and publish a book with a picture of veterans in various types of uniforms holding an American flag upside down. Those are facts. does that preclude him from running for President? No. Does that make him a jerk (for lack of being able to use a better word) in my eyes- Yes.
Date: 4/27/2004 10:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 62060    I have yet to find a politician with honour, so...
Date: 4/27/2004 11:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    Baghdad is starting to look appealing....
Date: 4/27/2004 1:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    what happened was when he came back he threw medals over the lawn of the whitehouse, whether they were his or not is still in the air. personally who cares, if anyone that went to vietnam came back feeling good about the ordeal they definatly dont deserve a vote in my opinion.
Date: 4/27/2004 2:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 29387    After what they did do Kerry? You mean they weren't deplorable BEFORE that?!?
Date: 4/27/2004 4:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 22852    Politics are dirty.. Sadly I do not want to vote for either one of these men so I have a lot of studying to do on them both. I knew I should have tried to run myself but hey who has that kind of money? Oh yeah Bush and Kerry do..LOL
Date: 4/30/2004 3:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 47296    Kerry is not the first veteran to throw away his medals and protest war, and he will not be the last. To this day, I cannot tell you where my military medals are, and could care less if I ever remember. I also protest America's involvement in a lot of the brush wars we have fought, and am not particularly fond of us being in Iraq. Does that mean I am unpatriotic? No. It just means I don't care to see more young men die for someone's political or monetary gains.
Date: 5/2/2004 11:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 50435    It's all a smear campaign. And it doesn't matter which one you vote for, they both have the same friends.
