Life is life when you are growing up. Nothing to hold you back; except for the pure need to have your space and expand your horizons. All you focus on through this point in your life is your friends and social life; then you hit college and reality really hits.
I remember those days like they were yesterday. Actually, hold up, they weren’t so long ago and I am still going through a expanding of horizon today. My name is Natalie. I’m a college student and once was a wild high school girl. Currently however, I have learned the need to grow up. I learned everything doesn’t revolve around your friends, guys, or the fact of being “popular.” I still act like it does. I mean I can’t help it I am growing up and trying to have fun but I have learned. Life changes and reality sinks in when you realize the real world is getting a job and making something of yourself in order to survive.
I won’t even bother reflecting on high school. It’s more the time following that really matters in my story. The time it takes for people to change, how quickly it occurs and most importantly how some people never learn to grow up. I left high school at West High and headed to college in the fall of 2002. I was on top of the world, finally getting away from home like every teenagers dream. I wasn’t going far, however, it was far enough to live on my own and start a new life.
Within my first week of college I had a well rounded group of friends with many of the same interest. We were having a blast partying and staying out all night. Soon enough my best friend became my roommate, Kerri. She was a shy and sweet girl; opposite of me who was loud and probably rude as all hell. However, our difference were few for a while and we were both just out to have a good time and enjoy college. I also met some more wonderful friends, James, Misty, Tom, and Jessie. I’d fall head over heals for James within the first week or two of the semester and find him with no interest once so ever in me. It was sad, but yet the truth. My freshman year would go by quickly. My friends would be my friends and I would have an amazing time, till I returned home. That’s when the story truly begins.
