THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US AND THEM-----KURTVEDDER

I recently heard a joke the other day which went like this. Law students ask "Why would they". Science students ask "How Could They". Pschologists ask "Who are they". Arts students ask, "Do you want fries with that". What I want to know is this, why is it that people feel the need to bag arts students. Are their future careers so insignificant that they are the mockery of all of the population. How does a person value the degree of importance when it comes to a person's chosen field.

Date: 3/2/2004 7:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 44960    It's much better to choose a career and let the Farmers deal with the fields!
Date: 3/2/2004 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    I think of it like this..if your chosen profession makes you, personaly, happy..then let people say what they will. In the end, their words don't matter..your own happiness does. For the record, I think without art the world would be a very uninteresting place..you add beauty, and an insight on the world as it truly is that mere mortals like the rest of us will NEVER see, and without you there to capture it for us in a painting, a poem, or music..we would never even get a glimpse. So, I for one, thank you...
Date: 3/2/2004 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 15675    in America (to my knowledge at least) it tends to be 'go to college, get a good job, make money.' Its all about MONEY and thats insane to me! Id rather barely make ends meet doing something I love then be rolling the dough with something I hate!
Date: 3/2/2004 7:46:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45630    Ummm here in Australia an Arts degree is more than just paintings and stuff. You do History and English and other Social Sciences. I just finished it so I could do my final year of my Education degree.
Date: 3/2/2004 7:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    yeh Vedder, the curriculum is the same, however an art degree doesn't necessarily garuntee you a job...at least in the same way that say law school or a degree in Psychology would.
Date: 3/2/2004 8:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    Oh..I just assumed that you were an artist or something because of the post..but still, you made a great point and my thoughts stand for anyone who may be an artist of any type.
Date: 3/2/2004 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    it's the same with communications magors and english magors and history magors.... i guess it's this they are nice things to know, but not the most appliable skills
Date: 3/2/2004 8:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 45630    But the fact of the matter is Midnightly that without these things those other professions wouldn't be able to work effectively. If it wasn't for history we wouldn't now how to act in the future. Communication, heaven forbid that doctors and nurses weren't able to understand their own little jargon. English, many things would be mis read without proper grammatical knowledge.
Date: 3/2/2004 10:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 51635    For the same reasons that people think all blonde people are less intelligent then the rest of the world and have come with thousands of jokes about them...ignorance...it is just that simple...
Date: 3/3/2004 8:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 21266    that is soooo true..i feel like we have so many beautiful talents concerning art (especially abstract art its so popular here b/w the students) sad thing is very few people consider this as an actualy "talent". its sooo sad that a great gift such as the ability to form all sorts of arts is being thrown away..PEOPLE NEED TO APPRECIATE ART..ggrrrr its so frustrating!!!
