quick question to those computer people out there

hi. i'm just having a problem with my computer - and before you say it, it is not, and i mean NOT, operator difficulty. or maybe it is. i dont know. well anyway, when i try and save pictures now it just tries to save them all as "untitled.bmp" not what the file is called or the type of file it is. can i fix that or is my brand new computer worth less than my old socks? thanks for taking the time to help (if you do take the time to help).
