My second cousin Martha was put in the hospital yesterday. She asked my uncle to "tidy up" her house while she was in there. This was the first we had heard from her since 2000 because she has refused to leave her trailor since then, she pays another lady to do all her shopping, well my uncle did what she said and him and his wife went there this afternoon.guess what they found in a VERY small trailor.

3 1/2 years worth of daily newspapers and magazines

Pizza Boxes lining the walls to the ceiling, 1 a day for over 3 years.

Soda Bottles--the big ones

Her toilet has been broken for 4 months----remember how i said there were soda bottles?

notes all over her kitchen table that has previously been on her front door telling the landlord "she's sick and can't have him come in, or is at work,,,,,she hasn't worked in 4 years after her shrink told her her job was too stressful.

Jars of jelly and peanut butter about 2/3 a week since 2000.

I like my cousin Martha but no one know how to help her because she won't let anyone near her , she's around 55 , and im really worried at this point, she has gained 300 lbs. since last seen in 2000, and thats NOT healthy AND she's diabetic

Date: 2/8/2004 6:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    I'm sorry to hear this. I don't know what causes people to let trash pile up.
Date: 2/8/2004 6:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 52337    I agree with kozzmick... Luv ALws, Lizz
Date: 2/8/2004 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    She needs help hopefully those at the hospital will she she gets it. diabetes is a very depressing overwhelming illness and if it is not under control that can lead to many physical, mental and emotional problems I will pray that Martha gets whatever it is she needs
Date: 2/8/2004 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    Disgusting @ the soda bottle incident.
Date: 2/8/2004 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    Was she put in the hopital because of her weight? Or diabetes? This is so sad...because she has shut herself in and is trying her best to eat herself to death. The hospital will probably get her Diabetes in check but when she comes home...will she keep up with her blood checks?...Is there anyone who can go and check on her when she comes home?...Maybe take turns and make sure her place doesnt get like it was left?...Maybe you can get someone to fix her bathroom..that in itself is unhealthy...I am so sorry to hear about this....God Bless you and your family
Date: 2/8/2004 6:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Wow! I'm surprized she let anyone in to tidy up. This is a great opportunity to give the place a makeover and fix her toilet. Get it all ready with food and stuff for her coming home. This would be such a great act of kindness. She really needs someone to do this for her and obviously things have got too out of hand. People can get like this very easily. They don't mean to... they get so depressed that they just stop caring and it goes past the point where they can do something about it. Maybe this will give her the incentive she needs to make changes in her life.
Date: 2/8/2004 7:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Yeah that's it get it ready with food!!! She needs to either be committed to a psychiatric hospital,or a nursing home..Since it's obvious that she can't care for herself, physically or mentally...
Date: 2/8/2004 7:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    Does she have any immediate family?...Like her Mother or Father?..Husband?
Date: 2/8/2004 7:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 60395    only a brother and neither him or his wife have a job and his son was injured in football and has mental disabilities now
Date: 2/8/2004 7:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 60395    they're trying to help too but legally they can't do much
Date: 2/8/2004 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    What does your Parents say about all this...I mean not much you can do by yourself...If you get the whole family involved...that will be a start!
Date: 2/8/2004 7:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    She might be evicted if the Landlord finds out what condition her place was in...or could be in again......She might be committed like someone said
Date: 2/8/2004 7:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 60395    im up for anything helpful at this point, thanks for everyones help
Date: 2/8/2004 7:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    This is definately a dire situation and it sounds like something that you'd only see on a television talk show, which is my advice, see if someone who has a talk show can do an intervention, it will save her life
Date: 2/8/2004 8:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    god, how sad! how can she live like this? i think perhaps she may need some help ... especially after reading about the soda bottles
Date: 2/8/2004 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    my gosh!! it sounds like she needs to have someone with her.. live with her talk to her she sounds like she has locked herself into her home and regressed and tried to solve her issues with food... it almost sounds like she might have a mental illness/issues(these are more common then people think) goodluck
Date: 2/8/2004 10:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    That's really sad. Kinda reminds me of my grandmother (she's not fat), but she has malt mix in her cabinet from 1988 that was never thrown out. I hope everything goes okay with your cousin.
Date: 2/8/2004 10:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    This is like how my fiance's grandma lived. Last summer, me, Rich, Mike and Rich's dad spent 3 days cleaning up her moble home. I couldn't believe my eyes how messy the place was. Trash was everywhere! You couldn't even seen the carpet! She also has 3 cats there which ruled the house. There were inches of cat fur everywhere and the litter box had not been clean in God only knows how long. It was over filled with cat droppings and there were dozens of cat droppings all in the hallway and everywhere else. There was rotten food, dirty clothes, empty bottles, empty food boxes and so much more. It was awful. We ended up throwing a bunch of stuff away. Ever since we did the clean up, the place looked much better, but it's still a bit of mess. Since the cats ruled the house, the carpets still stink. I go over to her house 3 days a week to make sure that the house doesn't get messy again. I have gone through her fridge and the everything was rotten. Food from the year 2000...ugh..it was awful. I don't know how anyone could live like that either.. it's just nasty and I'm glad that I'm there to help her out.
Date: 2/8/2004 10:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    There were also lots of bugs, cobwebs, spiders, dust, even rats living in the house! *shiver* We still have one more room to clean but haven't got around to it. Maybe someone should go over there to keep her company and help around the house. Clean up, get rid of stuff that doesn't need to be there and whatever.
Date: 2/8/2004 11:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 51049    Does she suffer from depression or something? She should get to a hospital or something and get some help, the way she is not living is not healthy at all.
Date: 2/9/2004 1:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 6867    Definately sounds like major depression. She's totally anti-social, that is in no way good. If she were my family member I would try my hardest to have a judge order her into a mental institution(and that sounds worse than what it really is)Alot of these hospitals for ppl that suffer from depression are like 5 star hotels. You can have her declared incompetent, because she definatley lacks the skills to take of herself. Leave the house the way it is until you can get some kind of healthcare advocate or intake worker from a mental health facility to go down there. She is definately depressed, wow*shakes head*...and feels very alone. Love Yourself,
Date: 2/9/2004 1:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 25556    Awww, the poor lady. Maybe the fact that she didnt fight leaving to go to the hospital and actually asked for help with cleaning her trailer was a sign that she had come to terms and was willing to get help. Believe it or not, this could be a good sign.
Date: 2/10/2004 1:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 13897    oh.. my...god... what happened to this woman?! what would cause someone to live like that?!
Date: 2/10/2004 1:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 13897    god.. i don't mean to be really cruel, but i couldn't imagine helping someone who let themselves become something like that. i would feel like she wouldn't really care anyways because it seems like she doesn't value her own life. i'd call the authorities because that is incredibly unhealthy.
