I like old school rap that don't take themselves seriously (I.E Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Outkast) but I HATE "gangsta" rap. LOL, my tag is a take off rappers. |

Old school rap is cool, but the only amazing talant rappers have is talking incredibly fast and making very little sense |

Yeah... I have to agree. You know, I think rap is one of those things people are going to look back on in a few years and laugh. They're going to be like.... 'what were we THINKING?' lol. |

You could say rap is pointless just like I could say heavymetal music is pointless whereas all you have to do is bang on some drums, wrench some electric guitar strings and scream about something like cocaine and sex and you have a song. But every person has their own way of expressing themselves and each person has their own likes and dislikes of music. |

Before you go talking about how all rap is pointless why not actually take the time to listen to it? It is not all abut sex and drugs just like not every country song is about a guys dog or his pickup truck or someone dying...I hate to say this but you sound very very ignorant |

Why is rap pointless? It is a valid form of expression. |

I don't care for it.... Simply because it has no relation to the way I live. |

When it is fused with other types of music, it can be verrrry interesting. Led Zeppelin lead guitar player, Jimmy Page, did this with a famous raper (sorry, cannot remember his name) a few years ago. It was fabulous. I think it was featured on Saturday Night Live (if I'm not mistaken). Some songs have mixed-in rap that really add to it. But... what I don't like about rap is that it's become saturated. When it is just rap on it's own, all songs start to sound the same after awhile. If it isn't fused with other types of music, there's only so far you can go with rap before it all starts sounding the same. |

BTW, I don't listen to rap that much either because I don't care for the music style, but Tupac.. whew, that man had some things to say and he made them very clear.. listen to him, he was a poet. He had alot of very good views and points in every song. His raps weren't just about shooting people and drugs. I think he was one of if not the best rapper out there. |

Wow, rap is only about sex and drugs? I didn't know. You shouldn't put hip hop in a box like that. To some ppl it is a culture all it's own. Try Mos def, Common, NAS...there are alot of rappers like these gentlemen that are lyricist that really make a person think. Don't generalize rap. Love Yourself, |

Yes Rika is very right...get the lyrics for songs like Dear Mama or Keep Ya Head Up or Baby Dont Cry or any other of Tupacs songs and then tell me he has nothing to say and it is all about drugs and sex...yea some of them are about sex and drugs but not all and those songs I mentioned especially Keep Ya Head Up or Baby Dont Cry are inspirational for women....listening to them when I am feeling bad always makes me feel better. |

I personally think rap is to music what spagettios is to food. But some people are into it, some people are also into beating on hollow logs, to each his own. But I will say that the glorification of the thug life and "blingbling" and style over substance is a poor message. Tupac and biggie are not heros to me, just thug wanabes who ended up dead because some moron actually took the game seriously. |

BCAR, Tupac was not a thug "wannabe".. he was actually into gang activities for much of his childhood and teenage life and alot of his lyrics were trying to urge other young black men away from that lifestyle. |

Well then Tupac was a former thug who couldn't get away from the past that he glorified. No sympathy here. |

I agree with Gia. It is amazing how people just categorize one particular genre of music and not give consideration to all that it has to offer. There are different styles of "rap" that is not just about sex, drugs, thug life, etc. But hey, each its own. |

I think ANY music that talks about drugs or sex is pointless. Any music that has swear words in it is pointless. I generally don't like rap at all, but I do occasionally listen to Christian Rap, and you can actually HEAR what their saying. |

I have one thing to say about 2pac. I don't think anything he did should be glorified just because he is no longer with us. Yes, dear mama, and keep ya head up were and still are anthems for single mothers everywhere, but at the same time he contradicted himself. He preached respect for women and then direspeted them. He was young at the time of his death and I believe he had not yet found himself. I believe he was very much on a path of self discovery...and I strongly believe he was trying to get away from the life he was glorifying in his albums. If he had lived, I think he might have been one of the best actors hollywood had seen. I truely believe that. I believe he would have poured all of that emotion into his film career. Love Yourself, |

There's much more to it than what you say. Rappers do incorporate feeling and emotions into their songs, only in a different way. You have to really listen to the lyrics and get background on the music before you make that sort of a statement. |

..i find this post insulting, i challenge u to write a rap song and find a good beat for it, it is hard, its not just a load of talking, and there are millions of rap and hiphop songs out there that have nothing to do with sex or drugs. |
