Well I've gone to a Catholic school for the past 13 years...and my teachers always made me do problems, read out loud, memorize my tables and sometimes even poetry. Hmm. I'm thankful for that, even though I resented them for it back then. From what you said, it seems as if our educational system is going to pot, and nobody really seems to be doing much about it. Parents are ignorant and the poor teachers are underpaid. Looks like we're going to have a handful of spoiled, uneducated kids serving us when we get older. Yikes |

Hmmm all I can say is it is not that way down here. My kids give their teachers hugs all the time and I would never think of suing over that. My children have to memorize the tiems tables and learn cursive and if they refuse then they are sent out of class for insubordination. I know my youngest had a real hard time last year because he did not understand everything and so he reacted by throwing fits and disrupting class. He had to be sent to the office many times. So maybe teh area where you live is bad but I have not experienced this as of yet. I always say you can only get out of a school as much as you are willing to put in. SO if parents are not willing to contribute to their childrens education and teachers are not willing to go that extra mile and children dont want to learn the education system is jsut not going to be what it should or could be |

It's not that way here either. I want to be a teacher in a few years, I know some teachers and have family in the public school here. The teachers work really hard with everyone to make sure they're learning everything I learned in school, and our school system has actually improved. Tests show students are actually smarter than they were in past years and teachers are more qualified. Unlike when I was in school, I have two very young brothers who absolutely love school! The go on and on about what they've learned. |

Some people worry about prayer in school. I worry about the liberal social agenda that dominates our public schools. I think it was in Wisconsin where a kindergarden teacher decided to tell her 5 year old students that she is a lesbian. A five year old asked the teacher if she was a boy or girl..the teacher was "offended" and the child was reprimended. Why don't we just go a head and call schools what they've become, reeducation camps? If we got rid of teachers unions, awarded performance with pay instead of time in position with pay, turned schools over to private enterprise and gave parents a choice of where to send there children (which would be in almost all cases the best performing school) we wouldn't have garbage like this taking place and maybe we could get back to teaching kids writing, reading and arithmitic instead of sex education and tolerance for teachers personal lives. |

kelly making it a private enterprise would make it private schools and on top of that making the poor even less educated, do you honestly want that? |

You don't have an education system. All the incessant whining and cries of "poor me" have pretty much ruined all that. You can't expect a twelve-year-old to know the product of 12 x 12. Jeez. That's just too much. He might stress out over that one. I'm not even going to get into this. |
