A Heart Beats --- Originally written December 9, 2002

A heart beats,
A baby cries,
Where new life is born,
An old one dies.

A heart beats,
Live for each moment that you get
Just because you watched the sun rise
Doesn't mean you'll see it set.

A heart beats,
Bitter teardrops fall,
Yet I know that I would rather fail,
Than never try at all.

We know not where life will lead us,
Or what people we will meet,
But there is magic in the air,
Whenever a heart beats.

This is the second poem I have submitted to USM, again one from my pages at Deviant Art. In a way, it kind of reminded me of how I felt in a way toward Shaz's post toward the Poem he posted recently :

http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm371497.html

Just something in it spoke out to me, and reminded me of this that I had written...It's simple, I know, and some of you may not care for it, but it always speaks volumes to me. Any comments or constructive criticisms will be greatly appreciated. I think I'm going to start sharing some of my poetry from Deviant art here gradually, depending on how well it is recieved, but not all of it will be accepted, as I did dally a bit with erotic poetry there, and this site is G-rated. :) Anyone interested is welcome to look at my gallery there, www.raemilyn.deviantart.com It is a good site, as there are also journal entries available to read, as well as thumbnails that accompany each poetry submission. I will admit I had a good friend help with a majority of the thumbnails until I got the knack of working with and manipulating stock photos, but if you're interested in it, check it out! (It's for more than just poets too, they accept prose, photography, pixel art, etc.

Thank you again for reading my poem. I always get a little nervous when sharing my work with a new group of people...but as I mentioned I believe in a previous post, you're starting to feel like family to me, so I feel comfortable opening my vulnerable self to you, and showing this side to you...Thanks to all who read and comment.
