Faith

Just as I choose to believe, I can also choose to disbelieve. Nothing forces me to reject an idea, values, or belief. It angers me to find people trapped within their own mindset, unable to think on their own volition. I often wonder what afflicts them in order to adopt such an attitude toward life. Saying "God does not exist." as a casual statement does not imply that one should cease to have faith in a god. Faith is a thing of our own. Its abstraction allows us to possess as much of it as we want, or vice versa. The only problem that can come out of faith is surpassing its limit, although some might believe it has no limit. The limit of which I speak is when faith overcomes consciousness, and everything one does revolves around faith, whether it affects others or not. As a final opinion, and this is just an opinion, I do not believe cyanide would taste great in my fruit juice...

Date: 2/4/2004 8:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    See, I'm not trapped into one mindset..rather, I see aspects in alot of things in which I can believe that these beliefs, ideas and values may be valid. If anything, I have trouble deciding on any one idea..but I guess that's not a bad thing in and of itself..it just keeps me open-minded.
Date: 2/4/2004 9:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Good post (maybe not a debate), but a good post. Now, just as people say "there is no God", I do not find that nearly as annoying as the statement "My God/Truth/Way is the ONLY way". Faith is an abstract idea, without absolutes. It is also individual, as individual as each person is. I see a lot of people responded, I will check back later for more replies.
Date: 2/5/2004 4:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    Spirit Child, You are absolutely right. The worsed people think their personal set of beliefs (or lack thereof)must be embraced by everyone. I have a set of beliefs but enjoy learning about others. Learning about other beliefs does not threaten a deeply held personal faith.
Date: 2/6/2004 4:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 19613    I don't have any faith in faith, so to speak. It seems like a bandage to cover any holes torn by consciousness, if you get me.
Date: 2/8/2004 4:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    Faith (in God) is a kind of relaxation process for me. One of my biggest foes was worry and anxiety. I worried about everything. Finally I asked God to take care of my problems, then just laid back and waited for things to happen. Suddenly or eventually I'd come up with ideas to resolve the problems, or the problems would resolve themselves. That's happened every time I've had a problem, and it's taken a lot of weight off my shoulders. I'm really not sure that it's God taking care of it. It could be that my relaxation (because of my belief) is allowing my brain to work on the problem. Whatever it is, it works for me. I'm not sure if I addressed the point of this post. And no, cyanide doesn't taste good, period.
