I have never tried them, but I am not all to anxious to ever try them either. The warning label on the back tells you that you cannot smoke while using it and you should remove the patch and wait 24 hours before smoking (at least that is what they used to say). I got news for you, if I could control the urge and wait 24 hours I wouldn't need the stupid patch to begin with. I like the medication, Zyban/Wellbutrin. You can smoke for two weeks on it but within 3 or 4 days you don't even want to smoke anymore. |

My sister and brother-in-law used them and they worked for them. They said it's just really important to use them properly and for a long period of time. A bit off the subject but my stepmother who smoked for 20 yrs, was prescribed Welbutrin and she hasn't smoked for over a year now. That apparently works very well for smokers. Good luck to you. |

i have wellbutrin az, but i can't find my bottle to get it refilled. the wellbutrin did curb it alot for me, but not enough to quit. it cut my smoking down by about half. the last time i put my best effort to it, i got down to three and a half. you'd think that at three and a half, you could just pitch it and go for broke the next day, but nope. i was right in my worries of whether i was going to want it every day regardless. i do. it drives me nuts. as soon as i get stressed, a cigarette is all i can think about. i wouldn't even worry about it considering most of the people ive known have smoked for years and years, but my mom hasd a second heart attack, her brother had a heart attack, my father died of lung cancer, and i am having breathing problems. all this in the last two years. what is so stupid is, you'd think all that could make me drop it. i have tried. i'm not going to whine about it, but it is alot harder than i thought it would be. i wish i had never picked up the first one. it was just so easy. yep, you can't slip up and smoke on the patch. the worst thing is, i am a mean irritable woman when i am trying to quit. lol. thanks for your help az |

thank you you choose the wellbutrin did work well for me until i start getting agitated which is often lol. maybe i need to work on having someplace in the house that is my space where i can go have a few minutes of peace and quiet. it just isn't the same though. i don't know what it is about smoking, but it seems to instantly relieve stress. does anyone else find that to be the same and might you know why? |

I've noticed it....and I kinda think it's mind over matter....I dunno it could be the nicotine or something though. |

i've tried cold turkey, i was a madwoman. in other things, i have great self control, but not this. i've been smoking for 20 years now. i even smoke outside, but that doesnt keep me from going out in the cold to do it. and when i am cutting back, i have to avoid going places in the car, because that seems to be the one place i most desire to smoke. probably because it is the only comfortable place i can smoke. |

i did the patch and i had to start with step 2 because i don't smoke that much and step 1 was too strong and made me queesy. i was off cigs for 4 months and i got mad one day and smoked just one! yea right. then i tried the gum..........YUK then i tried the commit lozenge (sp) and it seems to do good. i think they are a little cheaper than the patch and you keep it in your mouth instead of on your arm. makes more sense to me. you don't smoke through your arm! anyway, i hope you quit! good luck! |

I used the patch and I think it's great. What it does is help you break the habit of having that cigarette in your hand or in your mouth. That is probably the most important part of it. It still delivers the nicotine to your system though. But as you advance in the program the mg.s of nicotine taper off. I might be an exception, but i was able to use the patch for 3 weeks, which got me out of the habit of holding a cig.....after that I went at it on my own w/o the patches. I would reccomend the patch to anyone. By the way, I was smoking 2 packs a day, so it really does work. Good luck, and whatever quit smoking program you decide on...stick with it, you will feel so much better Love Yourself, |

thank you gia, that was very helpful. i am sure i have been close to two packs a day myself. for me, it is the immediate fix when i am stressed. i will think on trying the patch anyway, i am not real big on gum. i don't know, perhaps i'll try them all lol. i worry though to use the patch, maybe it won't be effective, and i'll be outside sneaking a smoke before the day is over. it kind of burns me too that my insurance offers it, but i can't get it. i hate their strongarm tactics for classes anyway. it is the same if you have a baby, you have to go to this class even if you were there for your first three kids. cattleherding. |

No I am not taking anything now. I was taking the wellbutrin and within 3 days I had quit. I quit long enough that through the smoking cessation classes I blew new Carbon Minoxide into the the tester *YIPPEEE** It was the longest I had ever gone before. I was even able to go to the bingo and tolerate all the smokers there. I stopped taking the medication because I am a ditz and can't remember to take it and I started again. I just haven't had the desire to brave it up and try again yet. |

Hm, that's a lot of money...for me that is. LOL! I've heard from several people that the patch didn't work for them. But I wouldn't know. I would like to try the patch sometime cause I would like to quit smoking one of these days and I can't quit cold turkey. |

have you looked into life sign psc? it is a little handheld gizo that you program in every time you smoke for a week. after that, it tells you when you can smoke for the next 14 to 28 days, cutting you down gradually. |

Patches were no good. I tried several times and they did nothing but give me headaches and made me smoke worser than ever! Nicorette... that slowed me down a little bit. But I finally did quit but you do not want to take that route. 28 days on life support and morphine helped me out. when I left the hospital on day 32 I was smokefree and have been ever since. |

I never tried it because I don't smoke. My dad needs to use it, though, if it actually works. He smokes 3 packs a day! Eeeeeehhhh! |
