"Trip Down Memory Lane"~~~Katsho

I have been taking a trip "down memory lane" and as hard as it sounds I can only remember a few things from when I was a child. Much of it has been blocked and for good reasons Im sure. I do remember being with my grandmother, who passed away when I was 12. In those 12 years of my life there is no other woman besides my mother ;)who has impacted my life in such loving ways.

When I was about seven years old (in texas) we would go for walks by the railroad track. It was there that I seen the most amazing thing in my whole life. *remember im only 7* Were walking and my grandma points to this beautiful flower which was taller than me. I was stunned. A sunflower! Till this day, I decorate my kitchen in sunflowers. Later, when I was about 10, we would sleep in the back of the pickup truck at night with a matteress intstead of in the house during the summer. It was sooo refreshing. She told me, pointing to the stars, those stars are the windows to heaven...For a ten yr old, what a thought. I worship the moon & stars and guess what room those are in? You guessed it my bedroom! LOL

Do you have memories to share? I would love to hear them and see how it has affected your life as you have gotten older?

How it changed my life:

Makes me sad that physically she is not here..Then again, happy because Ill see her again surrounded with beautiful sunflowers just beyond the stars!

Date: 2/3/2004 3:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 58334    I miss my childhood. I remember one time, my family went to the lake fishing for the day and brought our two dogs along. It was such a great day. I remember jumping out of the back of the truck with my dogs and walking under the shadowed trees to the lake shore where the dogs went swimming. But now, the lake is closed off and they built commecial homes all around it. All of the beautiful trees have been cute down. That was probably one of my most favorite memories.

Date: 2/3/2004 4:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    What a lovely post! I always remember my dad made me laugh harder than any person I know! He was always joking and when I was upset or feeling down he could always make me smile or laugh. I have a memory that comes to mind..When I was about 4 years old I was playing right out front of our house and I was always warned NOT to go too close to the street. For some reason or another I guess I went where they thought it was too close to the street. I am the youngest of 6 kids and theres a good age difference between me and them. I could always remember hearing the word RESTRICTION and I didnt know exactly what it was but I knew it was bad and meant trouble. Well, that day he called me inside and told me, in these exact words..."Youre on STRICTURE for going to close to the road." He was joking to make the rest of them laugh..but boy! I thought I was really in big trouble. I was only about 4 remember. I went to bawling my eyes out..screaming "Noooo not stricture!!!" All of a sudden I stopped and said, "What is stricture?" They all burst out laughing. Still to this day, at 21 years old my father teases me about it. When he calls he says, "Have you been good? Dont make me put you on stricture" LOL! Sorry if this was boring to you.

When I brought friends over, he would ask them.."what was your name before you got married?" they would be like huh? LMAO Oh! and another favorite.."I bet you were born at a really young age" That always caught people off guard. LMAO Okay..Ill hush now.

Date: 2/3/2004 4:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    I have vivid memories from childhood, starting with my 3rd bay. Grandma was a very difficult woman from a German family known for producing very ornery people. I loved visiting her. Nearly blind, Grandmother lived in an old dusty home and always greeted us in her bathrobe with her hair in a hair net. She never allowed my brother or I to be disciplined during the visit without major trouble. She permitted me to hunt through the upstairs master bedroom. It had old school books used by my great grandparents, wonderful old photo albums dating to the 1870s and other treasures. Once I found her old wedding dress and some loose bead from a necklace my grandfather had given her before their marriage. I just loved doing this. I learned the family history by bringing down the old photo albums and having her name everyone she knew. She would tell me stories about when she was a girl (born 1909). I am glad I asked my questions. I lost her when I was 14. These memories are preserved in my memory.

Date: 2/3/2004 5:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    Katsho, it was treasure hunting of the best kind. I can't say here watch all was found but seeing other peoples lives is facinating. Some of the things were frightening, a picture of a dead child, a custom of the late Victorian times. Some things only came to me when I grew up. Very accurate pictures drawn in a book by a great grandfather, who was known as a crack pot inventor. If he had been educated beyond the 6th grade, who knows what he could have been.
