I think in the real world (and this is just a virtual manifestation of the real thing) that people use discretion for everything. Just like your real world Police Officer example - that is the reality of it - discretion is used and expections are sometimes made when you know someone. You discriminate in EVERYTHING you do - whether you realise it or not. It's a natural part of the human experience. When you decide to have pizza tonight instead of tacos, you just discriminated - making a judgement call that pizza sounds more appealing, better perhaps. Maybe Tuesday nights are always taco night - that is your family's tradition (or rule if you will) but somehow - pizza is just doing the trick for you. I could list a whole lot of other examples but it would just go to prove the same point. When you ask the admins to conform to a strict list of disciplinary actions according to what one person finds acceptable - you ask them to deny their humanity and act like robots w/o the ability to think. George selects the Admins on his perception of their ability to think with sound mind and solid distrectionary tactics. That choice is up to him: their ability to handle situations should be governed by him. I think if you have a problem with a particular admin - take it up with George (id 101 aka Radman) and not blanket all the admins as loose canons out to get the masses based on whatever hormonal fluctuations, foul moods or random selection they happen upon that day... but that is just my opinion... |

LMAO, Pete....Seriously, I am pretty sure that it is in the TOS here that it is the admin's discretion what is considered a violation of the TOS. I haven't ever met an admin that would ban/suspend an individual without warning them first or asking them to stop whatever they were doing that was wrong. I feel that if someone is asked to stop something and they don't then the admins have the right to take the next step. I am not saying that mistakes aren't made, but there are three sides to every story. Their side, your side and the truth. |

And police officers is a good analogy because just like police officers they give their time and their effort to keep USM safe and they get little to no recognition for it and they are constantly questioned by the people they serve. Funny how that works out. Like I said, I am not saying mistakes don't get made on all sides, but put yourself in a postion of responsibility and then ask yourself if you are willing to compromise it in order to let something "slide". |

Maybe there could be a system where the violation gets saved, and is overlooked by a group. I don't have any answers, I know that my own experience has not been great in this area. And I think that when someone does violate the rules they are talked to with respect and not talked down to. |

I would agree, I had a post deleted several times with no explanation until I went to Radman and had the post restored. I have also had posts deleted because they went against the TOS but then have been restored because in reality they didn't. Sigh. Everything is relative. And there are some GREAT admins out there, but there are a few who can take advantage of their position at times... |

Admins are human, I don't really see us as being like police officers. More like two people reading a book. No two people who read a book will get the exact same thing out of it, just as no two admins will get the exact same thing out of a situation. There are three sides to every story. His,hers and the truth, and it's up to admins to find that truth. |

VK,I'm sorry your Friend had a Problem with an Admin but what everyone fails to realize is WE are all Human and VOLUNTEER to manage the Site ...There is also the Old Addage that says "There are 3 sides to every story,His side,Her side ad The Right Side...Maybe you ought to have your Friend contact another Admin so they can mediate the problem rather then clump all Admins together ...Thank You for Understanding...I Remain In Spirit, |

Some Admins are more lenient on what they allow, because they don't feel the need to be a "babysitter"..As Dreamer said..It's like reading a book,no two people will get the same meanings from it..One may look at it as being playful, another may see things, as being overly rude...Also as Linda stated We are Human and we volunteer,we don't get paid to do what we do,some of us spend hours reading posts, and comments to make sure they conform to the G-rating,while others spend hours monitoring the chatroom. Believe me on the occassions when the chatroom is packed,it's not an easy task to watch every single conversation, and try and figure out, who is saying what to whom, but we do our best |

And Pete....were you going to frisk me haha. Its just I guess that I had a long absence and I come back and I see phrases like "what the hell" used over the site and I'm just like woah! Why wasn't this fixed. I even pmed ginger and she said that they were becoming more lenient on words that wouldn't be so offensive...I mean I'm not offended by any cursing because God knows I am guilty of the action myself. It was just such a shock to see it like that. This site is just so changed since I joined 2 years ago this August....but I guess nothing can be the same forever. |

Well some basic guidelines for discipline in anything are good and keep things running a bit smoother. The Admins to have a trying chore though, they continously feel as if they're babysitting and in a real world, it's hard to treat everyone exactly the same at all times. I understand what you're saying here though. |
