My GOD!!

I just got word earlier that my husbands camp at Balad had a missle attack today. One soldier in his company is dead, two in serious condition, others injured.

I'm fairly certain my husband isn't among the wounded or dead soldiers, but I've been on edge for the last several hours.

The door bell just rang.

No one comes to my house unless they call first...period.

I stood at the door trying to compose myself before I opened it...My 14 year olds face was frozen with fear. I opened the door and it was a Lost Pizza Hut delivery driver.

Thank God, thank God. I almost hugged her.

But I'm still shaking. Only 6 weeks left.

He is usually in the camp hooking up computers and working in the internet cafe..but this was a kind of wake-up call that everybody is in danger no matter where they are. My heart is still pounding.

I'm an old Viet Nam Vet who remembers all too well the pressures put on our loved ones doring war times. Our country calls and we go. Frightened spouces living on pins and needlesback home. You, the spouses, are the unsung heros of our country. May God's Speed bring him home. Your friend Don aka woodshed

Date: 2/1/2004 6:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    Just talked to my husband. Thank God for instant message because we get to talk quiet a lot. The missle attack hit a tent two away from his...he was on his way to that tent to pick up a vehicle when it hit..shrapnel went through his tent..he found his best friend bleeding from a headwound and wrapped his t-shirt around his friends head to stop the bleeding...though he didn't say and I didn't ask, I suspect there is more than one dead or perhaps the injured were very serious..he seemed somwhat in shock still, he had to get off because of an upset stomach.
Date: 2/1/2004 6:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 53013    I can't imagine ever going through that, thank god it was the pizza delivery person. I will pray for his safe return. Only six more weeks...

Date: 2/1/2004 7:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 30986    God, I truly feel for you and I know how you feel. My husband was over there for six months and I don't think I slept all that time. He has to go back again for an entire year this winter. It's already giving me the shakes because it's worse now than when the actual "war" was going on.

Date: 2/1/2004 11:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 10344    May i ask what unit your hubby is in? Actually, but not to scare you camp anaconda in balad has had quite a few rocket atacks that i have been told about from friends in the 1011th...from what im told they are dealt with extremely quick (told it's like a turkey shoot in the desert...lol)so don't worry to much.....safest place in Iraq.
Date: 2/2/2004 5:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    Gee that was scary! I hope he comes back safe and in one piece. Sorry to hear about that.
Date: 2/2/2004 6:06:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15228    RazorTalon, he is HHT/1-10Cav/4ID--I'd read that about Camp Anaconda, about the missle attacks I mean. They've been at that camp for about a month and this is the first one they've had. I was really hoping my husband would make it through his year there not having to see anything like this. He has been very lucky up to this point. He was along the Iraq/Iran border for a long time where it was very quiet, but he was completly bored..than they moved just outside of Sammura where they caught Saddam, now they are in Balad marking time till they come home. He said the attackers weren't caught.
Date: 2/2/2004 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 62367    I'm soo happy for you. May your husband come home safely to you.
Date: 2/16/2004 4:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 53961    Wow Kelly! I just ran across this post! My heart goes out to you and all the loved ones who sit and wait for the safe return of their loved ones. As I speak, more are going over and some are coming home. The end cannot come too soon. God bless you and your's.
