It is definitely the symtoms of strep throat and is contagious when you have a fever, and can get pretty nasty if not treated with antibiotics from a doctor.. do you have little white blister dots in your throat? To see them, you may need to stand in front of the mirror with a flashlight shining down your throat as you look in the mirror at your throat.. |

I think it would be best if you solicited medical advice from your doctor. |

First thing tomorrow morning, call your doctor. Or better yet, see if you can call your doctor's office today, and leave a message with either the answering service, or on the answering machine for them to call you first thing in the morning to set up an appointment. The mucus could be related to post-nasal drip, which would explain why you're sneezing so much. I get that a lot. Are you coughing any? If/when you cough, do you bring anything up? If the mucous is rust colored, contains blood, etc. If it is clear, then it is most likely just congestion. But if there is anything funny colored about what you might cough up, I'd go to the ER, it could be a symptom of pneumonia. As for your throat, I'd look into it with a flashlight...look and see if it is red and inflamed; it most likely will be, as that is what is causing your pain. Also check for white spots, they will look like blisters, and be toward the back of your throat, toward the tonsils, and some on the epiglottis itself. It sounds to me like you may have either strep throat or tonsilitis. Keep in mind that having tonsilitis doesn't necessarily mean that will mean surgery, they can treat that with antibiotics. In the meantime, stay in bed, and get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water, gatorade if you can stand it, avoid carbonated drinks (the fizz will make your throat burn). Hot tea with honey and lemon will probably be soothing. In any other instance I would recommend hot lemonade, but I don't know here.. you may want to avoid citrus fruits, it may cause further irritation. Keep lozenges nearby or hardtack candy to suck on to keep your mouth from getting dry. Gargle with warm salt water frequently. For the pain, and any fevers (check your temp approx. every 4-6 hours or so) Take tylenol. It's easiest on the stomach, and since you probably won't be eating much, that would go down the easiest. As for eating... hot soups or broths, applesauce, yogurt (but avoid dairy like ice cream, it will create more pleghm and cause you to cough more), popsicles, etc. Don't worry if you sleep a lot, it is the best thing for you. As for your temperature, if you start to get fevers, the tylenol and warm/cool baths or showers will help bring them down. But if your fever should spike to anything above 103, get your butt to the ER ASAP. Keep in mind that while fever is the bodies natural way to show that it is fighting off infection, high fever's can be dangerous. In fact, you may actually want to lower that number to anything above 102. If anyone here wants to help on that number, feel free to do so. I don't have any of my textbooks in front of me at the moment, so I forget the exact number. In the meantime, get plenty of rest, feel better soon, and get yourself one of those dainty little bells sick people on sitcoms always get to annoy the people taking care of them! LOL! *HUGS* (by the way, I am a medical office assistant, just on SSI currently due to health problems, and have also had a zillion colds, flus, bronchitis, etc. So this comes from both personal and textbook experience. Graduated with a 98% overall average in my correspondance school diploma <Harcourt Learning> So while I'm not exactly having the title of 'certified' or 'registered', I'm just as qualifed. Just thought I'd mention that since you wanted a doctor or nurse. Hope my qualifications meet your standards. <grin> |

You could have some viral infection and your tonsils or sinuses could be infected which may be what that yellow mucus is. Get a flash light and look in your throat. If you see white spots you have strep. If it's just raw and red, it could be many things. If you have a cough in conjuction with it, or you get one...it could be bronchitis. Look at the holes in the back of your throat and see if there are any white pockets of discharge draining from them...this would indicate congestion from your sinuses or infection in your tonsils. Best bet is ALWAYS to call your nurse or doctor and ask if they think you should be seen. Hope you get better soon. |
