Prologue
The zeppelin touched down on the runway, its propellers slowly stopping. The huge tarpaulin bubble swayed frailly and stopped, and the remaining hydrogen was sucked out into large pipes that linked were linked onto it by workers in blue jumpsuits. The amount of care was more direct that usual, because this was no ordinary airship.
The large, metallic doors of the cabin opened, and stairs rolled out. A man in a crisp black uniform walked out, with long, slick grey hair and deep, deep black eyes. He took in a breath, and waited. Soldiers dressed in obscenely stupid suits, obviously ceremonial, marched out of the cabin, the light of the dying sun reflecting off their bayonets. The assembled in lines beside the man, and a loud blast of a trumpet echoed out of the crisp silence.
Inside the cabin, amongst soldiers and servants, Princess Belladonna stood by Captain Phern. Phern marched out, followed by Belladonna. The soldiers saluted, and she nodded. The black uniformed leader smiled at her, but there was something in his eyes, malice perhaps. I haven’t seen him before, she thought, and she opened her mouth to speak –

The canvas of the airship went up in flames, fire raining down. Servants ran out, and the soldiers drew their rifles and looked round. A ball of flames crashed in front of Belladonna, the impact throwing her to the ground. She struggled to her feet, sweat trailing down her forehead. She swallowed hard, and wiped her brow. "Phern?! PHERN?!" she called. "Here, m’lady," he grumbled. His voice was grizzlier than normal, but he was not injured. "It seems we have had a nice welcoming..." he growled sarcastically, turning to look at the skeleton of the zeppelin. The fires were already being hosed down by local workers, and there were no dead bodies close by. "Anyway, let’s get you..." he turned. Belladonna was no where to be seen...
