yes. my son is 9. he was born with one and still has it. they think his may be a kink in his aorta though. but they can't run any tests on it right now because he is immune to the sedation needed for an MRI. so he sees a cardiologist very regularly and he is on a "watch and wait" thing...which i HATE! i just wish there was something that could be done. not knowing is the WORST! i know alot of people who have what the doctors call an "innocent murmur". some outgrow it, and some don't. i did some reserch on them when my son was found to have one and it shocked me how many people are born with murmurs. |

my son also complains of chest pains at times too. the cardiologist said he has "costochondritis" (or however you spell it. lol) it scares the daylights out of me everytime he says his chest hurts. mostly because they don't know if his aorta is kinked or not yet. so everytime he has chect pains, we end up in the ER. i'd rather be safe than sorry |

I was born with a heart murmer as well. I have not had any problems with it, although when I was pregnant with my kids I had to be monitored regularly because my heart rate would drop and I would faint. While I was in labour I was kept on a heart monitor as well. |

Hi GothicAngel, my 18 yr old son was born with a heart murmur and still has it. He has to have antibiotics before he see's a dentist or has anything operated on. Thank God it's not that bad of a murmur. I hope yours isn't. Some are and have to be fixed. Hugs, |

As far as I know I don't have one, but people can live a long life without even knowing they have one. I just found out recently that my cat has a heart murmor and that whe won't live as long as most cats so I'm giving her the best life I can. They said it is caused by a tiny hole between the two ventricles of the heart and some blood leaks through. Sorry to hear you have one. In most cases they don't affect peoples lives too greatly I heard. |
