I am having a problem with my writing that keeps popping up. How would I describe the facial/physical features of a person without saying "She/ He looks like __________".

I don't want to just say 'she was blonde haired and blue eyed. I want to be able to describe eye shape, lips etc...are there any books or websites I could visit to help? *sighs*

Do any of you have a suggestion for me?:)

Being a writer sure is hard work....

Date: 1/29/2004 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 45397    The beauty of her beautiful ocean blue eyes stared at me with hipnotic insistance. hehe that help?
Date: 1/29/2004 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 62222    Well, you could disguise it using other sentances. Instead of saying: He/she walked over to the dresser to brush his/her hair you could say "She got up and walked towards the dresser to brush her chestnut colored hair". It all in how you incorporate the details of the person into what they are already doing or using the perspective of another. I don't know of any websites right off hand but I'll see what I can come up with....
Date: 1/29/2004 11:02:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 3688    I'm looking for along the lines of "almond shaped eyes" "pouty lips" "upturned nose" etc....Basically what a person would see if they look into a mirror.
Date: 1/29/2004 11:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 62222    You can still use that same technique. Hmm for example: "John stole a glance of Lisa from the corner of his eye, her almond shaped eyes were wide with wonder and her puty lips were slack with suprise. As she gazed at the dimly illuminated being in front of her, her expression of total awe washed all the snobbiness from her face and made even her snooty, upturned nose more bearable." Or something like that....
Date: 1/29/2004 11:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 62222    errrr..."pouty lips" (hehehe puty lips, what the heck are those???)
Date: 1/29/2004 11:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 45397    lol she can still stare hipnotically in the mirror
Date: 1/29/2004 11:11:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 3688    hehe yeah i'm just looking for more examples like what i gave...:P I don't think every character i write about can have almond shaped eyes and pouty lips
Date: 1/29/2004 11:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 26733    Beauty stares itself in the mirror and looks in wonder at the her moon lit eyes, her soft silk lips, devilishly long coal black hair…an untamed personality to match her untamed walk. This is beauty, this is her. Matt aka

Date: 1/29/2004 12:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 3688    Grammar is my weak spot but spelling I do ok in, and I'm not sure there probably are though
Date: 1/29/2004 1:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    The beauty in her almond eyes were dull in compassarison to her full lush lips, compounded by her thick blonde hair, it was safe to say this woman's looks was something many women strived for and never could obtain.
Date: 1/29/2004 1:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I meant to say WAS not were. hehehehhe Hey don't ask me, I'm only the piano player, LOL ya right never played one in my life.
