"Kaw-liga's Girl"...with apologies to Hank Williams

Kaw-liga was a wooden Indian standing by the door
With whom, a young maiden across the way, fell in love forevermore
Kaw-liga!!!
Yeah, she just stood there and never let it show
So, however much she felt, he would never know.

He looked so fine in his Warrior feathers, holding his tomahawk
The maiden wore her beads and braids, and hoped someday HE'D talk
Kaw-liga!!!
Yeah, she was too shy to ever show a sign
Although, only for him, her heart would ever pine.

Poor little girl, she never got a kiss
Poor little girl, she don't know what she missed
Is it any wonder that her face is red?
Always just standing there, crying, instead.

The maiden was a lonely soldier, that never went nowhere
For her heart was set on that gorgeous lad with the salt and pepper hair
Kaw-liga!!!
But, she just stood there and never let it show
So, however much she felt, he would never know.

Poor little girl, she never got a kiss
Poor little girl, she don't know what she missed
Is it any wonder that her face is red?
Always just standing there, crying, instead.

Then one day a bolder suiter took him far away
And broke her poor heart too, so there she stayed
Kaw-liga!!!
Yeah, she still just stands there, as lonely as can be
Wishing she could become an ol' pine tree.

Poor little girl, she never got a kiss
Poor little girl, she don't know what she missed
Is it any wonder that her face is red?
Always just standing there, crying, instead.
