god has a home here .... but he doesn't OWN the place ....sexypenguin

okay,

i have to weigh in in the already watered down subject of "god" being taken out of the country ... (all apologies to those that read post after post after post about the subject, i'll do my best to not sound like the other posts).

first of all, i firmly believe that 'god' should be removed from any and all government related articles, allegiances, etc. ... GONE. Oh, and nothing slick can be taken past congress either ... that's right, there will be NO government program called the Guys On Drugs (also known as G.O.D.).

right hand on the bible in court? gone. 10 commandments at the courthourse? gone. god on the dollar bill? gone. having to claim a church to get welfare? gone. schools? stay gone.

ALL OF IT, gone.

see, in the united states that I live in, i live by the laws created by man, for man, and punishable, when not followed, by man. order of laws:

1. state law 2. god's law

now, i have to wonder .... what exactly is so UNAMERICAN about that? it makes me non-religious, NOT unamerican.

and furthermore ... all of you that want 'god' in everything and want god ever so present in our state laws and regulations ... are these also some things that you believe?

*should committing adultry be ILLEGAL? (immoral, sure, but punishable by more than a unfavorable divorce?)

*should women still be considered property?

*if you are christian, should it be ILLEGAL to believe in anything else (as there are to be NO false idols?)

*contraceptives would be illegal

with rules like that, i have to wonder ... exactly WHO is calling WHO 'unamerican' .... do we all remember pat robertson and jerry falwell blaming americas own freedoms for 9/11?

now, don't get me wrong .... religion is great for some. there is nothing at all wrong about living a life that 'god' wants you to live. that's fine. you do that. in fact, there are places that you can talk about it with your friends and others that feel the same way .... its called CHURCH.

See, generally speaking, if you obey man's laws, you are right in line with most of god's laws ... just worry about yourself. you won't commit adultry, and that's a good thing. depending on closely you follow scripture, you may treat women like property (you'll be lonely, but it's not illegal -- unless you are an employer, of course ... but that's a whole other discussion).

so, i have to wonder ... why do YOU care if I live by the same rules and live with the same god that YOU do ... let me choose. We all live by the same laws that we, as a country, created ... everything else is how we live OURSELVES.

while discussing fiction that has good morals, for those that want more to read than just the bible, here is a list of other great works that have a moral point ...

the tortoise and the hare the little boy that cried wolf the fox and the grapes

my 'god' doesn't believe what YOUR 'god' believes ... that's why they live in different homes, think different ways, and have different politics. but, see, they both still live in america.

Date: 1/26/2004 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 12133    http://www.dispatch.com/news/features01/jan01/566590.html This is the link to where i got it, just in case someone is wondering.
Date: 1/26/2004 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 12133    Its funny, "In God We Trust" first appeared on coins in 1863, and appeared on paper money in 157. People didn't seem to get offended getting money with "God" on it. Funny how times change.
Date: 1/26/2004 12:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 58611    I personaly dont care what religion anyone is or isnt, to each thier own, but why change everything including our own history? I may not personally believe in god, but our founding fathers did and I respect thier right to believe how they see fit for themselves, and since they gave us this great land and the right to believe how we wish, I dont think we should change it now.
Date: 1/26/2004 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 23959    I absolutely agree with you, Aqua Rose
Date: 1/26/2004 12:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 27558    for once someone that looks at it from other relgious perspectives, I am wiccan I am proud to be wiccan but does that mean I have to believe in what Christians believe? Not at all, eveyone thinks Christianity is the always correct religion personally I don't give a hoot. Good post.
Date: 1/26/2004 12:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 58078    I agree with so much of what you said, the point of my post was basically if you are going to take it out of the pledge there are so many other things that it has it in to like all the songs and would that mean you are going to change everything...I just think its alot of work and if its been this way for so long now why change..just seems like a hassle.
Date: 1/26/2004 1:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 44850    but, aquarose, just because its change, doesn't it make it bad .... and changing something isn't erasing its history. just by taking something out, doesn't mean erasing the fact that it was there .... it just shouldn't be there any more.
Date: 1/26/2004 1:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 44850    but, italian princess .... it would be WORTH the hassle
Date: 1/26/2004 1:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 58611    But what would we change it to? In what do we trust? Even if you are not Christian, (execpt atheists)you believe in some type of higher power. It is the same unknown, unseen,un-proven higher thruth, power, knowledge that we are all praying to. Only we have many different names for it. They didnt name God by a specific religious name, they just said God, so for me that is fine, it is in some for of a God that most of us trust. So for me In God we trust holds true. Hope that makes sence!
Date: 1/26/2004 1:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 58611    it is in some *form* of a God.....darn typos
Date: 1/26/2004 2:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 44850    but, what does 'god' have to do with money? it should never have been on there in the first place.
Date: 1/26/2004 2:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 32133    it seems to me like the only people anyone considers doing anything for is the athiests if the athiests dont like it we have to take it away.....as far as i know this country was founded upon god and if they took "Under God" out of the pledge i would still say it infact i would scream it when that part came up when we say it at school.... )>>>
Date: 1/26/2004 2:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 11097    Hmmm, I read your post and all your views and I have a question for you and all those who agree with taking God out of government, why? I am curious as to why one would fight so hard to remove the word God and faith out of schools and court houses? Is it because only because of their not believing in God? Should this nation rid schools of prayers and moments of silence? Should this nation rid giving a moment of silence for our troops? For those who have passed on? In whom does our nation trust, man? Interesting post
Date: 1/26/2004 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 52554    thank you for this post... made methink... somethings i agree with.. some i dont... im athiest tho... so... ^_^\m/CocacolaChick
