Detective Ricketts had finally located Derrick Taylor. Taylor it seems- was serving a life sentence, in Georgia, for the murders of two women in the Atlanta area. To make it all the more interesting- the human remains of a female had washed up in Tampa Bay. There was speculation that it was the remains of Lisa Renee Fisher and a witness put Derrick Taylor at the location on the night she disappeared. With these circumstances in tact- Ricketts knew that Taylor could not have committed the homicide against Anna Marie Sterling.
He began to concentrate on David Parkhurst. He had a gut-feeling that the guy was in the Timberlake/Madison part of Wisconsin- he wasn't sure where or even why- but he had spent an hour listening to Lydia Sterlings ramblings about her marriage and her life with Parkhurst, he couldn't help but be curious as to the man's whereabouts...................
Without a blink of an eye- Ricketts phone rang at the Police headquarters. It was an officer responding to a suicide call at the Rusting-Wheel Trailer Park- located about 5-miles outside of Timberlake. "You'd better get down here Dan", the officer requested, "I think you might want to check this one out". Dan Ricketts grabbed his trenchcoat and gloves and headed out into the chilly evening air. His old car took a long time to show any resemblance of heat or warmth- he turned on his radio and listened to the slow-gabbing disc jockey at the oldies station. The sound of the Everly Brothers singing "Wake up little Suzie"- boosted a small amount of energy into the graying detective, slowly he pulled away and headed to the dilapidated trailer park............
"I don't believe for one minute that this was a suicide Sir". The officer at the scene informed Dan, "something's not on the level here". The detective followed the officer into the victims trailer. Rusting-Wheel trailer park was like a last resort complex for drug addicts and alchoholics. It was run down and the trailers weren't much more than stained metal boxes where these sad-sack human-beings lived. It was in an isolated part of the county- polluted by beer cans, wine and whiskey bottles, empty cigarette packs, and brown liquor store sacks. Once the detective was inside trailer #20- he was struck by the scene. There was a man in his 40's laying slumped over on a couch with a bullet hole between his eyes and a high powered rifle approximately five feet away from the body. On a counter in the tiny kitchen lay a suicide-note. It read;
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN- MY NAME IS DAVID ALLEN PARKHURST AND I'M ENDING MY LIFE. I DON'T WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY ANYMORE. I MISS MY WIFE LYDIA AND I MISS MY CHILDREN. I'VE MISSED ALL OF THE IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THEIR LIVES, I'VE MISSED WATCHING THEM GROW UP. I DID NOT KILL MY DAUGHTER! I KNOW I'M A SUSPECT. I MOVED HERE TO TIMBERLAKE- JUST SO I COULD BE CLOSER TO THEM AND SEE THEM ON THE STREET EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. IT WAS NEVER MY INTENT TO HURT ANYONE. I LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING. PLEASE TELL LYDIA AND DYLAN I AM SORRY FOR THE HURT I'VE CAUSED. SINCERELY, DAVID.
After reading the note- Ricketts walked through the trailer. There wasn't much in the place. He noted a small black & white television set, a stained matress, a couple of stands to put lamps on, an overflowing trash can, a large blanket covering the front window, a small amount of clothes, a pair of shoes, and a digital clock radio with the numbers blinking aimlessly. The detective opened the top drawer of a dresser in the back bedroom of the trailer- he was taken aback by he saw. There were six photographs. These photographs came straight from Anna's picture-album and underneath the photo's was an unfinished letter that David Parkhurst was attempting to write. It was to Lydia. Dan couldn't make sense of it all. What had this man done, if anything? How did he come up the photographs that were hiding in his dresser? How long had he been around the area?
