Happy birthday Edgar Allen Poe (<>..<>)

I almost forgot about the birthday of one of my favorite writers :o (and surprisingly I was just reading some of his poems earlier this afternoon), but then I just saw a story about it. Every year a mysterious robed person leaves French cognac and three roses on Edgar Allen Poe's gravesite at midnight. But this year there was a note saying "The sacred memory of Poe and his final resting place is no place for French cognac. With great reluctance but for respect for family tradition the cognac is place. The memory of Poe shall live evermore!". The news story hinted that the note was because "French opposition to the war in Iraq." If they had said that the thought probably would have never occurred to me, so I guess take your own interpretation of the statement.

I remember one year my Poe-loving friend told me that someone had drunk the alcohol that was left at the gravesite. I'm not sure if he was just making that up, or if a bum actually drank it LOL. Anyways happy birthday and RIP Edgar! If it's even possible for a corpse to have a happy birthday.

Date: 1/19/2004 8:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 24732    You could go to his grave I suppose, but no free booze this year.
Date: 1/19/2004 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 62506    Poe was my first brush with the darker side of humanity. I fell in love with his works at the ripe old age of 9. The next year on my birthday, I literally caught a young Raven and taught him to say "nevermore." I had to have his tongue clipped to enable him to speak as it is with all ravens and crows. My birthday present was the vet bill paid for by my late grandmother, who by the way introduced me to Poe a year earlier. He was young and easy to teach. In his lifetime he had learned over 30 words.I miss him and my grandmother alot and think of them often while reading Poe. Thanks for letting me vent on your post, I hope you don't mind. It has been a long time since I've run into anyone who felt about Poe the way that I do. Graci, Woodshed
Date: 1/19/2004 10:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 52612    just one of my greatest inspirations of life...
Date: 1/20/2004 5:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 24673    I wore my raven necklace in his honor. I don't go for poetry because it is so personal and at times difficult to understand, but I have liked Poe since I was in school---a long, long, long time ago.
Date: 1/20/2004 12:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    Poe taught me the word "tintinabulation" (spelling?), and for that I'm forever grateful. It's from the poem about the bells: "...the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells..." I had to recite it in front of the class in junior high school, so it always sticks in my mind. Few stories have scared me as much as "The Black Cat." Happy birthday, Edgar!
