Kas gasped. At the foot of her bed,was a blurry-looking light. As it became clearer,Kas could see the vague outline of a young girl, around thirteen or fourteen years old.She had short blonde hair,a pale,heart-shaped face, and what appeared to be a white and black polka dotted dress. It couldn't be,she thought. It looked like Chastity Griffith, but there was no way she would ever wear something like that. Then,it dawned on her.Chastity's aunt!Kas tried to scream, but she couldn't."Go to Piney Oaks.Help me.The light is almost out.Help me!"she said,in an eerily high-pitched voice, like a young child's."The light? What do you mean by 'the light'?"she asked, but before she could ask anything else, the apparition faded. The rest of the night,Kas couldn't sleep. She kept thinking about what the spirit had said. What had she meant about the light? What did it mean? But something else also crossed her mind.Should she tell her parents? No,she decided after a while. They would probably just say it was a dream. But it couldn't have been, she thought. It was far too real. She layed there until some tiny bits of light peeked through her window. She slowly got up out of bed and stumbled on her shoes from the previous night. She opened her door and walked quietly down the stairs.Once she got to the kitchen, she immediately looked at the microwave clock. It read 5:15 a.m.She got out a cup and some cranberry juice from the refrigerator and sat down with it at the table. She poured only a little bit before her mind started wandering again. Why had the spirit come to her?Why hadn't it gone to Chastity? She just didn't understand. How did it even know she was going to Piney Oaks? Those were the three questions she pondered the longest. At around 6:00,she started to hear noises coming from her parents' room. She got up,put her untouched glass of cranberry juice in the sink, and went upstairs. She tip-toed pat her parents' room and into her own.She started to get dressed. After she had done all that she needed to do,she went back downstairs where the rest of her family already was.She fixed her cereal and sat down across from her brother. She ate about four bites when she suddenly blurted out,"When am I going to Piney Oaks?"Her brother looked at her,her mother stopped preparing her coffee, and her father, who was halfway done putting on his jacket, stopped while trying to put his arm through the sleeve. Her parents looked at each other. Her mother said briskly,"Your father and I have decided you shall finish up your last two weeks of this nine weeks of school.I am going to contact them today while you're away."Kas looked at her for a minute, then said,"Do I really have to go to school today?I mean, with the death of Jessica's grandmother and all,you know...."she trailed off."It is very tragic that her grandmother passed away, but we think it is vital that you go to school today."her mother said,as if she was making a point."Now go get your books ready for school."She nodded and walked upstairs to her room.Halfway there, she stopped. She walked to the phone and dialed Zac's number."Hello?" answered a chipper voice on the other line."Hey Tracy. Is Zac still there?"she asked quickly."Yeah, hold up a sec." A minute later,Kas heard Zac's tired voice on the other end."Hello?"he said."Hey,it's me,Kas.Are you going to school today?"she asked."Yeah,I gotta go.The 'rents are making me."he said."Okay, well, meet me at my house in five minutes.Okay?"she said."Okay."he said slowly,as if not sure what he was supposed to say.She hung up.After she went to get her bookbag and blue jean jacket, she went outside without even saying goodbye to her family.A few minutes before he arrived,Kas was swinging back and forth on the porch swing when she heard a tiny voice around the side of her house. She walked around the side and screamed.Part 13 coming soon.
