There is nothing to worry about!

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:25-34

Date: 1/13/2004 7:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    this is a nice passage from the Bible. It would appear to be a reminder to not be sucked in Earthly worries (matters), but trust in God to provide them. I am curious about the word "Pagan", as used in this statement. I would be interested to find out the origin of this word, (was it translated from Greek? or Hebrew?), because I find it interesting that God would compare one peoples behavior, to another peoples behavior, while giving a directive (lesson). Thank you for sharing.....

Date: 1/15/2004 11:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 28989    LSG, I remember reading that the original translation of Pagan was "country dweller," but I'm not sure where I got that from. I like this passage, too. This same thought came to me one day, while I was worrying about something trivial--that in reality there's nothing to worry about as long as you're moving in a spiritual direction. Worry really serves no good purpose. That's a tough lesson to learn, though!
Date: 1/15/2004 12:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    thank you Canoe! I always understood "Pagan" to mean "Non-Jewish, Non-Christian, and Non-Muslim". So basically a "Pagan" would also include Buddists, Taoists, and Native Americans, among others. It has such a negative association, which I feel is unfair. Sorry about the re-direct on the topic, but to fully understand the Bible passage, I wanted to understand how the name Pagan was beging used. And, yes, Canoe, worry is a tough issue which seems to be with us all the time. It is very hard to "Let Go-and Let God". (No matter who your God, or Goddess is).
Date: 1/17/2004 7:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 54461    I love that post in the bible. I worry every day, but I should listen to our Lord, and go along with what he says. But doesnt everyone worry? God Bless.
